In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
ANA Holiday Inn Sapporo Susukino is an upscale 4-star run under IHG's Holiday Inn name together with ANA Hotels, the lodging arm of the Japanese airline. There are 178 rooms in a modern high-rise styled in warm, understated tones. Standard rooms run roughly 20 to 25 sqm and come with a kettle, a fridge and a bathroom with a smart toilet. Staff speak good English, and the hotel runs on IHG One Rewards — the kind of points program frequent travelers already keep an eye on.
Food and amenities
The all-day dining restaurant serves both Japanese and Western food, with a bar-lounge that opens in the evening. Buffet breakfast runs from 06:30 to 10:00, and the on-site list is generous for the price: a free gym, free luggage storage for before check-in and after checkout, a coin-operated laundry and dryer, and free Wi-Fi throughout the building. There is even a tour desk that helps book trips out to Niseko. Guests score the location as high as 9.0, with an overall 8.6 on Trip.com.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits at Minami 3-jo Nishi 4 in Chuo ward, and the standout is the walk: about 2 minutes from the front door to exit 2 of Susukino station on the Namboku line — the shortest in this list. From there it is 5 minutes by train to Odori Park and JR Sapporo station. The Tanukikoji arcade is a 4-minute walk, the seafood stalls of Nijo Market are about 700 metres away for an early breakfast, and airport buses to New Chitose stop in the same area.
Things to know before booking
The guest score lands slightly below the other ranked hotels here — still strong, just not the top number on this page. Because the hotel is planted in the Susukino nightlife district, rooms can pick up street noise at night, so it is worth asking for a higher floor. One more note: it stands in for the original #2, Hotel Okura Sapporo, which is still open but no longer has a Trip.com booking page.
Our take
This one is best for business travelers and couples who want a big international chain with the fastest walk to the metro in the area. What we like is simple: roll your bag out of the lobby and you are heading down to the subway in two minutes, with a restaurant and a free gym waiting back at the hotel. At about $31 a night off-season it is good value for a 4-star that includes buffet breakfast on several rate plans — an easy choice if you want the big chain that is easiest to get around from.
