In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Andaz Tokyo occupies floors 47-52 of the Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, and the lobby on floor 51 is the Andaz Lounge — an open, glass-walled space looking out over the whole city. There's no conventional check-in desk; Andaz staff handle it on a tablet while you sit with a cup of tea. The whole look comes from Tony Chi, weaving Edo-era craft — indigo-dyed fabric, timber and washi paper — into contemporary lines. The Andaz King on floor 48, Tokyo Tower side, runs $544 a night across a generous 50 sqm, with soft wood-clad walls, indigo textiles and local ceramics. The King bed measures 200x200 cm, there's a sitting nook by the tall windows, and the 9 sqm marble bathroom is open-plan, with a deep tub set by the glass so you can soak with Tokyo Tower in front of you, plus a rainfall shower and a Toto Washlet. The minibar drinks and snacks are free in true Andaz style.
Food and amenities
The highlight is the Rooftop Bar on floor 52 — part indoor, part open-air terrace. Go up at sunset, order a signature cocktail at $16, and watch the sun drop behind Tokyo Tower as it glows orange; it's the best moment of the stay. Dinner at Bistro on floor 51 leans on Japanese ingredients cooked European-style, with mains $41-61. Down in the AO Spa & Club there's an indoor pool, an onsen-style bath split by gender, and a gym; a 60-minute treatment runs $177. Breakfast back at Bistro is $37.
Location and getting there
Andaz sits atop Toranomon Hills, the landmark skyscraper that finished in 2014, with a direct underground link to Toranomon Hills station on the Hibiya Line — no umbrella needed in the rain. From there it's 1 stop on the Hibiya Line to Kamiyacho and 2 stops to Roppongi, or a 12-minute walk to Roppongi station itself. It's an 8-minute walk to Tokyo Tower and 6 minutes to The Okura. The Toranomon Hills mall and restaurants sit right below, and the Hibiya Line runs straight to Ginza in 5 minutes.
Things to know before booking
This is a full 5-star, and rates start at $543 a night. It also runs leaner on dining than its rivals, with just 3 restaurants against the bigger ANA InterContinental or Grand Hyatt. And while the building links straight into Toranomon Hills station, the Toranomon setting puts Roppongi station a 12-minute walk away, so it's a touch removed from the Roppongi nightlife core.
Our take
Andaz Tokyo Toranomon Hills is the pick for design-minded travelers who want a modern lifestyle hotel — floors 47-52 of Toranomon Hills, a sky-high view from every room, Tony Chi interiors built on Edo craft, roomy 50 sqm rooms, and a floor-52 rooftop bar with one of the city's best Tokyo Tower views. It scores 9.1/10, rates start at $543 a night, and the Andaz service stays relaxed rather than formal. We'd send couples and anyone who values design, an easy mood and a view from up high.
