The King bed measures 180 by 200 cm and lands somewhere between soft and firm, and you also get an L-shaped sofa, a proper work desk and a 50-inch Smart TV with Netflix and YouTube.

Food and amenities

The whole point of AP Home is the kitchen in your room — a 2-burner gas hob, a big fridge, a microwave, four sets of dishes and glasses, a coffee maker and an electric kettle, plus a dishwasher in the Premium Suite (VND 850,000, about $32). Guests walk 5 minutes to the Tan Binh wet market for pork, vegetables, rice and stock, then cook their own Bún Bò Huế — cheap, and genuinely good. Owner Phong speaks solid English, handles 24-hour check-in himself, and throws in a free airport transfer if you book 3 or more nights (otherwise VND 200,000, around $8).

Location and getting there

Tan Binh is a local neighbourhood rather than a tourist zone, which is exactly why the food is better than around Pham Ngu Lao — these places cook for Vietnamese regulars, not backpackers. Phở Lệ is more famous locally than the Bill-Clinton-era Phở 2000, and its Phở Bò Đặc Biệt costs VND 60,000 (about $2) for a bowl piled with tender beef in real broth. Bánh Mì Huỳnh Hoa, going strong for 50-plus years, stuffs a pork bánh mì for VND 50,000 (around $2). The airport is roughly 15 minutes away, which suits anyone flying in and out often, and the airport transfer is free.

Things to know before booking

This is not a party base. You're 15 minutes from Pham Ngu Lao, so the Bui Vien bar scene is a $3 Grab away rather than out the front door — fine if you want quiet, frustrating if you want to roll home from a bar at 2am. Tan Binh is residential, so don't expect nightlife or a tourist crowd on the doorstep. And the Wi-Fi tops out at 60 Mbps — perfectly usable for calls and streaming, but not fast if you're moving big files. Worth noting the review count is still thin because the place is new.
