Arro Khampa is a small boutique of just 18 rooms, renovated in 2019 in Khampa style — big stone walls and pine beams painted Tibetan red. Our room ran about 32 sqm with a real wood fireplace that staff come and light at sunset, plus Tibetan striped weaves, a yak-wool rug and handmade wooden furniture throughout. The king bed is soft and the blankets are thick, which you want on nights that drop to 5°C.
Food and amenities
There is a small library, a tea house pouring butter tea and highland barley brews, a bar, and a Khampa restaurant doing local Tibetan dishes alongside a Western menu, plus a café. The airport shuttle is free, and the team will set up horse-riding on the high meadows and hikes around the valley. Real-guest scores sit near 9.6, and you feel the care every time you walk back in. Rooms start around $100.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits inside Dukezong Old Town, about 150 metres on foot to the old-town gate and Moonlight Square. Five minutes out the door gets you to the 60-ton giant prayer wheel at Guishan Park, and a short 15-minute drive reaches Songzanlin Temple, the "Little Potala." It is roughly 5 km from Diqing Airport — a strong base if you want to walk and soak up old-town Tibetan life.
