In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Superior Twin USJ View on the 38th floor runs 26 sqm at around $109 a night, and the window does a lot of the work: you look straight across at the Tempozan Ferris Wheel, with USJ further off and the wide stretch of Osaka Bay beyond. At sunset the whole city goes orange — genuinely cinematic. Beds are two 110×195cm twins on classic Simmons mattresses. The bathroom is a standard Japanese unit bath of about 4 sqm with everything you need, and the room has a 40-inch Smart TV, a fridge and a kettle. Free Wi-Fi clocks in around 100 Mbps.
Food and amenities
There are 4 restaurants, all easy to reach. The Sky Lounge "Lasour" on the 51st floor does a dinner set course for about $48; Restaurant "Café" on floor 4 runs a breakfast buffet near $17 and lunch pasta around $12; the Japanese restaurant "Hanachisao" on floor 4 serves kaiseki for roughly $44; and the Chinese restaurant "Shoutennen", also on floor 4, does dim sum and a wagyu fried rice for about $10. The real draw, though, is the Skybar on the 51st floor — free for guests, open 17:00 to midnight. From 200 meters up you can pick out Abeno Harukas (the tallest building in Osaka), the Umeda Sky Building, Osaka Castle, USJ glowing at night and the bay. Cocktails run about $10, tapas around $8 — a quietly romantic spot for a couple.
Location and getting there
The tower connects directly to Bentencho Station through a covered walkway, about 30 seconds from door to platform. From Shin-Osaka it is roughly an 8-minute ride on the JR Loop Line. To reach the park, walk to Bentencho, take the Loop Line one stop (5 minutes) to Universal City for about $1.10, then walk 3 minutes in — about 8 minutes all told. The lower floors hold a small shopping mall with a Family Mart, a Starbucks and more than 10 Japanese restaurants, and the lobby sits up on floor 4 in a 1990s-modern grey-and-black look that still reads well. If you would rather skip the train, a direct bus to USJ runs every 30 minutes for about $1.40.
Things to know before booking
This is not a USJ Official Hotel, so there is no Early Park Entry — you will line up with the general public at opening. Reaching USJ also means a 1-stop train ride rather than a walk, roughly $2.20 a day for two return trips. And the building is older than the newer Official Hotels, having opened in 1995; the lobby and rooms still look sharp, but you are not getting brand-new finishes. The front desk runs 24 hours with English, Chinese, Korean and sign-language support.
Our take
Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower is the best choice if you want a good hotel on a budget and plan to mix USJ with the rest of Osaka. The 51-floor, 200-meter tower, the 360-degree views, the direct link to Bentencho Station and the one-stop hop to USJ add up to real flexibility. The 8.7/10 from 1,800+ reviews backs up the quality, and at around $97 a night it is the best value here. If you don't need to be inside USJ every day, this saves you a stack of money you can put toward food and shopping instead.
