In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Arun Residence hides down Soi Pratoo Nok Yung in the Tha Tien quarter of Rattanakosin island, right on the Chao Phraya River. It's an old wood-and-plaster Sino-Portuguese building done up in classic style — a hotel with a real story and the character of the old town, not a generic box. There are only a handful of rooms, and the feel is that of a warm riverside home. Every room has air-con, a flat-screen TV and an ensuite bathroom, and a few look out on Wat Arun and the river.
Food and amenities
What made the name here is the restaurant, The Deck. Guests come for dinner on the riverside terrace, where Wat Arun rises across the water with nothing in the way — a genuinely romantic sight. Upstairs there's a rooftop bar and lounge with a Wat Arun view after dark. Breakfast is served by the river, there's free Wi-Fi, and a reception desk handles the basics.
Location and getting there
The Tha Tien location is the real luxury here. From the door it's a few minutes' walk to the pier for the cross-river ferry over to Wat Arun, about 3–4 minutes to Wat Pho, roughly 9 minutes to the Grand Palace and 3–4 minutes to MRT Sanam Chai. You can do the whole old town on foot, no car needed.
Things to know before booking
This is a small hotel with very few rooms, so it books out fast — plan ahead. Facilities are basic and there's no pool. And because it's an old heritage building, the rooms and stairs are less convenient than at a newer hotel. Come for the atmosphere and the view, not the amenity list.
Our take
Arun Residence is best for couples who want a boutique hotel with real character and a Wat Arun view. If you value a heritage building, a riverside restaurant with a great view and a walk-everywhere old-town location more than a full set of amenities, this is the one we'd point you to.
