The bathroom splits the tub from the shower and stocks Thann toiletries. The shell of the building still carries the tone of an 1980s Chinese hotel — China Hotel first opened in 1984 — but the lobby and rooms have been renovated and feel far more current. Guests with a Club room get the Executive Lounge, which pours free wine and cocktails in the early evening, and Marriott Bonvoy members pick up upgrades and late checkout. Bonvoy Gold guests often land a Yuexiu Park view without even asking.

Food and amenities

The indoor pool on the 5th floor draws praise for being kept comfortably warm, and the gym runs 24 hours. Breakfast is the highlight: the Four Seasons Cantonese restaurant serves genuinely good dim sum in the morning — har gow, shrimp siu mai, century-egg congee — all folded into the buffet, with a Western corner for anyone who'd rather have eggs and toast. You won't need to hunt down a tea house elsewhere before heading out.

Location and getting there

This is the real advantage here. The hotel sits directly above Yuexiu Park metro on Line 2, and you can walk underground straight onto Line 5 at Guangzhou Railway Station — just one stop, about 3 minutes. From there it's a 5 to 7 minute walk to BaiMa Clothing City and the Liuhua Garment Market, where Thai sellers from Pratunam and Bobae buy wholesale every season. The Sanyuanli leather market — bags and shoes — is 3 stops up Line 2, under 15 minutes in all. Come back loaded with big bags and staff will help carry them up to your room.

Things to know before booking

The starting rate is the highest on this list: you'll pay roughly $23 to $34 a night more than the hotels right next door. It's also a large property with over 1,000 rooms, so check-in and the lifts draw a crowd at peak times. And during the Canton Fair, rooms fill fast — book well ahead. The trade-off is the pool, the gym, the dim-sum buffet and a location on top of the metro you simply won't find next door.
