In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 1-Bedroom Family runs 50 sqm at around $265 a night and sleeps 4. It splits into a living room — sofa, a 4-seat dining table and a 55-inch Smart TV — and a separate bedroom with a King bed (200 by 203 cm). The kitchenette is the real draw: a two-burner IH stove, a large fridge, a microwave, cookware, plates, cutlery and a dishwasher. There is a 5 sqm unit bathroom, and a washer-dryer combo tucked into a closet means you can do laundry in the room, which is what makes a stay of 5 nights or more feel manageable.
Food and amenities
There is no restaurant in the building, so the kitchen is the point. On the first morning it is a 5-minute walk to Kuromon Market, a 600-metre stretch of fresh stalls selling tuna and wagyu, strawberries at about $5.40 a pack, oden from around $2 a piece and a sashimi set near $10. Guests tend to pick up tuna, salmon, vegetables, rice and soy sauce and cook dinner back in the unit — that can save roughly $20 a meal compared with eating along Dotonbori, and it helps if anyone in the group is fussy about Osaka food-court fare.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits inside the Takashimaya Higashi Annex, a building that opened in 2020 in central Namba, with a Takashimaya department store and several restaurants downstairs; the Citadines lobby is on the 3rd floor. From Kansai Airport (KIX) a direct Limousine Bus runs to Namba Bus Terminal in about 60 minutes, then it is roughly an 8-minute walk. For the park, walk 5 minutes to Nipponbashi, take the Sennichimae Line (~$1.60) to Awaza, change to the JR Chuo Line (~$1.10) toward Bentencho, then the Loop Line one stop to Universal City — about 30 minutes and roughly $2.70 each way.
Things to know before booking
This is not a USJ Official Hotel, so there is no Early Park Entry — you queue with the general public, though an Express Pass or Universal Beyond Pass bought ahead through Trip.com still works as normal. A 1-bedroom starts from about $240, more than a standard hotel room, and those round-trip train fares add up over several park days. The trade-off is space and a kitchen rather than walking distance to the gate.
Our take
Citadines Namba Osaka is the pick for a stay of 5 nights or more that pairs Osaka city with USJ. The full kitchenette, the washer-dryer and a 50 sqm 1-bedroom add up to something close to a second home, and being in central Namba near Kuromon Market and Dotonbori keeps a family trip easy. It holds 8.7/10 across 1,724 reviews, with studios from about $110 and the 1-bedroom from $240 — a fitting #10, the hybrid choice for travellers who want both the park and the city in one trip.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- Every unit has a kitchenette and a washer-dryer, so you can cook your own meals and do laundry on a longer stay rather than living out of a suitcase.
- It is run by the Ascott group out of Singapore, which brings renowned serviced-apartment standards to the building.
- The location is central Namba — a 5-minute walk to Kuromon Market and 10 minutes to Dotonbori, so you are in the middle of Osaka's eating and shopping.
- Layouts run from studio to 2-bedroom with a full kitchen, which works for families of 4 to 6 travelling together.
- It opened in 2020, so the kitchen appliances, the washer and the Smart TV are all newer than what you find in older hotels nearby.
- USJ is a 30-minute trip via Metro and JR, and at roughly $2.70 per person each way the train fares add up across a multi-day park visit.
- A 1-bedroom starts from about $240 a night, noticeably more than a standard hotel room in the same area.
- There is no restaurant inside the building, so every meal means heading out into Namba — handy if you want the kitchen, less so on a tired evening.
