In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Standard Double runs about 23 sq m at NT$2,200 (around $69 a night), decorated in a bright palette with a light touch of the ocean theme — cheerful rather than themed-to-death. The bed is comfortably soft, and there's a desk and a small spot to set your things down. After the 2023 renovation the bathroom is clean, the shower has good pressure, and the toiletries are all there. The room isn't large, but it's well laid out, the air-con cools fast, and the interior-facing rooms are noticeably quieter than the ones over the street.
Food and amenities
Breakfast is a compact buffet — local Taiwanese plates like congee, stir-fried vegetables and eggs, plus the basics of bread, fruit and coffee. It's not fancy, but it fills you up and gets the day started. The common areas carry the playful sea theme that kids tend to enjoy, and the Wi-Fi works fine. There's no pool, which is the main thing missing here, but weighed against the location it's a fair trade.
Location and getting there
Location is the clearest reason to book. The hotel sits on Zhongzheng Road, the shopping street, and it's a few minutes' walk to Tianhou Temple — the oldest temple in Taiwan — and the Central Old Street district. Local snacks and cactus ice are all around you. Magong harbour is within easy walking distance, and the airport is about 12-15 minutes by car. To get around the rest of the island, renting a scooter is the way to go.
Things to know before booking
The flip side of being on the shopping street is the daytime crowds, so street-facing rooms can get noisy — ask for an interior or higher floor. There's no pool; if that matters, look at the 5-star options. And while the renovation did a lot, the building underneath is an older hotel, so a few spots still show their age. None of that is a dealbreaker if you came for the location.
Our take
Ever Spring Hotel suits couples and families who want a walkable, central base for the old town and shopping on a modest budget. It scores 8.3/10 from real guest reviews, and its spot on the shopping street is the standout advantage. If you want to step out the door straight into the old town and you're not fussed about a pool, this one delivers.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- The best base for exploring the old town on foot — it sits directly on Zhongzheng Road, the shopping street, so you walk out the door into shops and snack stalls.
- A 2023 renovation freshened up the rooms and common areas, so the place looks newer and cleaner than its price suggests.
- It's the island's first ocean-themed hotel, and the playful sea-themed decor runs through the lobby and common spaces — kids tend to like it.
- Tianhou Temple — the oldest temple in Taiwan — and Central Old Street are both just a few minutes' walk away.
- At $69 a night it's genuinely good value for how central it is.
- Because it's on the shopping street, daytime crowds mean the street-facing rooms can be noisy. Ask for an interior or higher-floor room if you're a light sleeper.
- There's no pool, so if swimming matters you'll want one of the 5-star options instead.
- Even after the renovation, the underlying building is an older hotel and a few spots still show their age.
