Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui

Four Seasons Laem Yai is about scoring a cliffside pool villa hidden in the trees with the whole of Ang Thong bay in front of you — it wins on privacy and Four Seasons service, not on being close to bars and night markets.

In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Four Seasons chose Laem Yai, on the northwest tip of Koh Samui, for its site — a spot most people still do not know, but genuinely where the green cliffs meet the prettiest stretch of Ang Thong bay on the island. The resort opened in 2007 with 70 private-pool villas spread down the slope. Rooms start at 70 sq m and rise to the four-bedroom Royal Villa at over 600 sq m. Every villa is hidden in the trees so you never see a neighbor, and the 5-7 meter private infinity pool has an edge that looks like it tips into the bay. Bathrooms are marble with a rain shower and a two-person jacuzzi. Real reviews on Trip.com (9.2) and Booking (9.2) agree the privacy is the standout, the linens are Frette, the amenities L'Occitane, and housekeeping keeps every corner spotless.
Food and amenities
The heart of a stay here is Four Seasons service that learns your name on day one — reviews say it with one voice, that staff remembered our names. The team lays on surprises for special occasions without being asked, and your villa butler handles everything from serving meals by the pool to booking the Ang Thong boat to setting up evening turn-down. There are three restaurants — KOH Thai Kitchen, a punchy southern-Thai room that many rate among the best on Samui; CoCoRum, contemporary European with a bay-view tasting menu; and beachside Pla Pla for breakfast and lunch. Lan Tania Spa sits up on the cliff overlooking the bay and uses Espa products alongside Thai treatments, with morning yoga, a fitness center and a private boat to Ang Thong rounding things out. The overall score is 9.4/10.
Location and getting there
Four Seasons sits on a private beach at Laem Yai on the northwest coast, an area with only a handful of luxury resorts and no tourist shops to break the quiet. The beach runs about 200 meters of white sand with very gentle waves that are fine for kids, looking out over Ang Thong bay and small fishing boats. Samui Airport is 25 km away, a 35-minute drive, and the resort arranges a private transfer for around $70-100. Chaweng is 30-40 minutes by car and Bophut Fisherman Village about 30 minutes. Anyone planning to hit a market or nightlife every night will lose time on the road, so use the free resort shuttle, which runs into town 2 to 3 times a day — check the schedule at check-in.
Things to know before booking
Straight talk to help you decide. First, it is very expensive — villas start at $1,200 a night and climb to about $5,150 for the Royal Villa, and dining follows Four Seasons rates, with a CoCoRum meal at $100-170 a head and a 90-minute spa treatment at $170-285. On a tighter budget, look at Six Senses or Vana Belle, where rates start at under half. Second, it is far from Chaweng and Bophut — planning to walk Fisherman Village every day means 1 to 1.5 hours of driving round trip, so treat it as a pure retreat, or stay 1 to 2 nights here and then move to Chaweng or Bophut for another 2 to 3. Third, the rainy season (October to November) brings stronger surf and the Ang Thong boat is cancelled on some days, so December to April is the best value.
Our take
Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui is the top of ultra-luxury on the island, with few real rivals — villa-grade privacy, the highest tier of Four Seasons service, and a quiet private beach you cannot find anywhere else on Samui. If the trip in your head is a cliffside villa with a private infinity pool, an Espa massage and the Ang Thong bay in front of you, this is the cleanest answer there is. If you would rather be in Chaweng or Bophut every day, or you want buzz, it may not fit. Overall we give it 9.4/10, best for honeymoons, couples marking a milestone, and anyone after quiet, private, ultimate luxury.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- Privacy is the standout. Each villa is hidden in the trees and angled so you cannot see your neighbors, and the 5-7 meter private infinity pool has an edge that looks like it spills straight into the bay.
- Four Seasons service is the real reason to come. Real reviews say the same thing — staff remember your name from the first day, the butler handles everything from poolside meals to booking the Ang Thong boat, and they lay on small surprises for special occasions without being asked.
- The bay view is the best on Samui. You wake up to small fishing boats out on deep blue water, and the sunset over Ang Thong from a west-facing villa is hard to beat anywhere on the island.
- Three real restaurants on site. KOH Thai Kitchen serves punchy southern-Thai food that many rate among the best on Samui, CoCoRum does a contemporary European tasting menu with a bay view, and beachside Pla Pla handles breakfast and lunch.
- Lan Tania Spa sits up on the cliff with a bay view and uses Espa products alongside Thai treatments, and the day fills out with morning yoga, a fitness center and private boat trips to Ang Thong.
- Price is steep. Villas start at $1,200 a night and climb to around $5,150 for the Royal Villa, and food follows Four Seasons rates — a CoCoRum dinner runs $100-170 a head and a 90-minute spa treatment $170-285. If the budget is tight, look at Six Senses or Vana Belle, where rates start at under half.
- It is a long way from the action. Laem Yai sits on the quiet northwest coast with no shops or restaurants to walk to, so planning a Fisherman Village or Chaweng outing every day means 1 to 1.5 hours of driving round trip. Treat it as a pure retreat, or split your stay and move to Chaweng or Bophut for a few nights.
- Weather matters. The rainy stretch of October to November brings stronger surf and the Ang Thong boat is cancelled on some days, so December to April is the sweet spot for calm water and easy swimming.
