In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Golden Lotus Luxury Hotel on Hang Trong Street punches above its price tag. The lobby is high and airy, dressed in gold furniture and crystal, and the headline feature is the rooftop sky bar looking out over the old-town roofs at dusk. Real guests score it around 8.4/10. We took a Deluxe room of about 28 sq m on the 7th floor, done in beige and gold with an embroidered lotus motif over the headboard. The king bed was firm and soft at once, with a full minibar, a safe, a flat-screen with cable, and a white marble bathroom holding both a soaking tub and a rain shower. Open the window and the tiled rooftops of the old town stack up in layers. Rooms run roughly $57 to $115 a night, and all 53 rooms were renovated in 2021, so it still feels new. Wi-Fi is fast throughout.
Food and amenities
The best part is up on the roof. There is a sky bar and a small outdoor pool with loungers angled at the old-town view. Around 6pm, order a Lotus Mojito for about $7 and stay for the acoustic set as the sun goes down. What surprised us is the second pool, indoors, usable when it rains or the air turns cold, which is genuinely hard to find in the space-starved Old Quarter and gives families a swim option in every season. In the afternoon the in-house spa runs a solid 60-minute massage. Downstairs, the Lotus Stream restaurant cooks punchy Vietnamese food in a smart setting: go for the bun cha (grilled pork with noodles) and a big bowl of pho, with dinner around $14 a head. There is also a bar-lounge, 24-hour room service, a cafe, and a business center.
Location and getting there
You are right inside the Old Quarter on Hang Trong, a 5-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake and the red Huc Bridge leading to Ngoc Son Temple. The silk shops of Hang Gai are around the corner, and the night market and Dong Xuan Market are an easy stroll north. Hanoi Railway Station sits about 1 km away, and Noi Bai International Airport is roughly 27 km out, with the hotel arranging both airport and station transfers.
Things to know before booking
Two honest caveats. First, guest scores land at 8.4, a clear step below the 9-plus hotels at the top of this list, so the rooms are comfortable rather than exceptional. Second, this pick replaces the original rank-8 hotel, which has rebranded and is no longer one we trust, so don't search for the old name. And at $57 to $115 a night it runs pricier than the budget rooms further down. Book a higher floor for the best rooftop view, and reserve early in high season.
Our take
Golden Lotus suits families and travelers who want a pool in the Old Quarter, a real rarity here, with a rooftop sky bar thrown in for the evenings. The pairing of indoor and outdoor pools makes it a year-round option, and the Lotus Stream kitchen earns its keep. It won't top the scoreboard, but for swimming and sundowners five minutes from the lake, it delivers.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- 4-star hotel on Hang Trong Street, right in the heart of the Old Quarter and a 5-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake.
- A rooftop sky bar paired with an outdoor pool, where you can swim with the old-town rooftops below and stay for sunset cocktails.
- A separate indoor pool too, which means swimming is on the table even when it rains or the winter air turns cold, something almost no Old Quarter hotel can offer.
- 53 individually styled rooms, all fully renovated in 2021, so everything still feels new rather than tired.
- Has a spa, the Lotus Stream Vietnamese restaurant, 24-hour room service, a cafe, a business center, and airport and railway transfers.
- Guest scores hover around 8.4, noticeably below the 9-plus hotels at the top of this list, so the rooms are good but not best-in-class.
- This pick replaces the original rank-8 hotel, which has since rebranded and is no longer one we'd trust, so don't go looking for the old name.
- At roughly $57 to $115 a night it costs more than the budget rooms further down the list.
