In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 155 rooms mix a classic look with modern touches, and most of them face Lake Geneva and the French-side Alps. Reviewers keep coming back to one line — waking up to the lake from bed. A few rooms have a small private balcony. The station-side rooms cost less, but they look the other way and can pick up train noise, so it is worth choosing carefully when you book.
Food and amenities
The main restaurant, The 45, seats 45 and serves Swiss-Mediterranean food with a direct lake view. Buffet breakfast is included in the rate and earns frequent praise in reviews. Staff get good marks for service and speak English, French and German. There is no pool or spa here — that is the trade-off against the lakefront 5-stars — but the front desk runs 24 hours and Wi-Fi is free.
Location and getting there
The location is the whole point. The hotel stands directly opposite Gare de Montreux, a 1-minute walk to the platform, which makes it the easiest base for day trips across Switzerland — Lausanne in 20 minutes, Gruyères in an hour, Geneva Airport in 70 minutes, Zermatt in 2.5 hours. At the same time you are right on Lake Geneva: it is a 30-minute walk along the Promenade to Chillon Castle.
Things to know before booking
There is no pool or spa, so if those matter you will want one of the lakefront 5-stars instead. Rear rooms on the station side can hear the trains — ask for the lake side to stay quiet and keep the view. Parking is limited, which is another reason arriving by train just makes more sense here.
Our take
Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic fits travelers who plan to lean on the train, want a lake view, and would rather have a classic 4-star than pay full 5-star. In rail terms it is the best-placed hotel in Montreux — step out the door and you are on the platform.
