This is a hostel that opened in 2023 and scores 9.4 — higher than the Holiday Inn that costs three times as much, and the number-one hostel in Harbin. The owner gutted and rebuilt the whole thing inside a downtown apartment block, keeping it to about 10 rooms — quality over quantity. The private twin is around 16 sqm with soft beds, fresh hotel-style linens, and an en-suite with a high-pressure water heater. The 4-bed dorm uses privacy pods, each with its own curtain and reading light.
Food and amenities
The front desk runs 24 hours and the staff speak good English — they'll help you book Ice and Snow World and Yabuli ski tickets. There's a restaurant open mornings and midday, plus a shared kitchen where travelers cook pasta or boil instant noodles, and an outdoor BBQ spot for anyone who wants to grill northern-Chinese style after dark. Add a coin laundry, personal lockers, free luggage storage, and fast Wi-Fi throughout the building.
Location and getting there
Xingsu sits on Xiaman Street in Daoli District, right in the Central Street quarter and next to Exit 1 of the Zhongyang Dajie subway station. It's a 2-minute, 150-metre walk to the Central pedestrian street — the closest of any hostel in the city. Saint Sophia Cathedral, the Songhua River, Zhaolin Park and Daoli Market (home of Modern Hotel ice cream and Harbin red sausage) are all within a 10-minute walk. Harbin Railway Station is 2.8 km away on a single subway line.
Things to know before booking
With only about 10 rooms, it books out fast in high season — reserve early. The facilities are hostel-style, so there's no pool and none of the multi-restaurant setup of the 5-star places higher up this list. And worth knowing: this is the hostel that replaced the original rank-8 pick, which only accepted mainland Chinese guests — Xingsu takes foreign travelers.
