In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Deluxe River View runs about 40 sqm, and ours sat on the 22nd floor looking straight out at the point where the Yangtze meets the Jialing at Chaotianmen. After dark the tour junks and casino boats slide past in gold light, and we lost a few minutes to it every night. The bed is a King Hilton Serenity — soft without sinking — and the bathroom is white Carrara marble with a deep tub we used every evening. You get Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries, a stocked minibar fridge, and a Nespresso machine. The lobby sets the tone: a giant crystal chandelier, patterned carpets, and staff in sharp suits who actually follow through on high-floor and twin-bed requests.
Food and amenities
The 4th-floor indoor pool is a proper 25 metres with a jacuzzi, the gym is fully kitted with Life Fitness machines, and the spa does Sichuan-style massage and aromatherapy. The standout is Lao Si Chuan, the hotel's Sichuan restaurant, serving original-recipe hotpot built on Erjingtiao chillies and real Sichuan peppercorn — a chance to taste honest mala heat without gambling on an unknown street stall. Across the board the kitchens hold up, which is what you'd hope for at a 9.2 guest score.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits on a bend of the Yangtze in Yuzhong District, the downtown core. Jiefangbei and the neon riverside stack of Hongyadong are an easy walk, and Caiyuanba railway station is close by for high-speed trains. You won't need transit for the main sights — most of them are on foot or a short cab ride from the door.
Things to know before booking
Rates open near $115 a night and the river-view suites climb past $230, so this is a splurge, not a value pick. Yuzhong is the busiest part of the city — crowds, traffic and noise start the second you leave the lobby, which is the trade-off for being this central. Rooms fill fast in high season, so book about a month out and ask for high floor river view by name, or you may end up facing the city instead of the water.
Our take
Hilton Chongqing is the pick for romantic couples and business travellers who want a global-brand room downtown. No other hotel in the city puts you this close to the Chaotianmen confluence, and few views beat the Yangtze waking you up in gold light. Book at least a month ahead, say high floor river view, and let the river do the rest.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- It's a genuine Hilton 5-star, so you get the brand's standards — Hilton Serenity beds, consistent housekeeping, and front-desk staff who actually handle requests like high-floor or twin-bed rooms.
- The address is the selling point: right on a bend of the Yangtze in Yuzhong District, the downtown core, not stranded out in a business park.
- You can walk to the Jiefangbei pedestrian street and the riverside stack of Hongyadong, and Caiyuanba railway station is close by for high-speed trains out of the city.
- The 35-storey tower is built around the view — a large share of rooms look straight out at the Yangtze and the skyline, and the higher floors catch the Chaotianmen confluence where the Yangtze meets the Jialing.
- Amenities are full-service: a 25-metre indoor pool with a jacuzzi on the 4th floor, a Life Fitness gym, a spa, and the Lao Si Chuan restaurant doing real hotpot with Erjingtiao chillies and proper Sichuan peppercorn.
- Starting rates run high, as you'd expect from a downtown 5-star — around $115 a night at the bottom, and the river-view suites push well past $230.
- Yuzhong is the busiest part of the city, so expect crowds, traffic and street noise the moment you step out of the lobby.
- Rooms go fast in high season; if you want a specific high-floor river view you'll need to book about a month ahead and ask for it by name.

- You can walk or grab a quick cab to Jiefangbei and Hongyadong from the door, so you don't need transit for the main sights.
- Book the in-house Lao Si Chuan restaurant for authentic mala hotpot — it saves you gambling on a random street stall for your first real Sichuan meal.
