In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
This is the resort with the highest real-guest rating on the whole list — 9.6/10 — and review after review says roughly the same thing: there's genuinely nothing to complain about. It opened in 2014 with 346 rooms, and the starting size is 41 square metres, noticeably bigger than the usual Hilton in Japan. Book a King Deluxe Ocean View on the 7th floor and you get the full west-facing sea view — in the evening the sun drops behind Toya island in deep orange, you soak in a marble tub under warm lighting, and you can pick out stars from the balcony.
Food and amenities
Breakfast is at Hanafu, where the Champagne is free and flowing, alongside zuwaigani snow crab and freshly grilled miso saba mackerel. The pool count is the real draw: a large sea-front Lagoon Pool, an indoor Spa Pool open year-round, a kids' pool and a Jet Pool for anyone who wants the massage jets, plus a 15-metre slide children will happily ride all day. Eforea Spa stays open until 23:00, with a Ryukyu Stone massage at around $122 for 90 minutes. The 9.6 overall is earned across the board — rooms 9.6, cleanliness 9.7, service 9.6, pools 9.6.
Location and getting there
The resort sits right against American Village, the most alive shopping-and-seafront district in central-southern Okinawa. Walk five minutes out of the lobby and you're at the Carnival Park ferris wheel, with 60-plus shops to browse — Depot Island, Vessel and designer local brands among them — plus a Blue Seal ice-cream parlour whose beni-imo purple-yam flavour is the one to get. Come evening, it's a three-minute walk to Sunset Beach Chatan for a long pink band of sunset. There's underground parking at around $10 a day, and Naha Airport is just 28 km (45 minutes) away.
Things to know before booking
It's the priciest pick on this list — rooms run from about $170 up toward $370 a night. Chatan is busy and buzzing in high season, which is great for atmosphere but less so if you want quiet. And because it's a large resort, the pools and lobby do get crowded at peak times. None of that is a dealbreaker, but go in knowing this is a lively, in-demand spot rather than a secluded hideaway.
Our take
Hilton Okinawa Chatan Resort is the best fit for families and couples who want the top 5-star resort on the island, a location you can walk from for food and shopping, and an easy hop to Naha Airport. We recommend it with the most confidence of anything here — it's the highest-scoring choice on the entire Okinawa list.
