In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Our #3 is the hotel we fell for on international service inside the old town — Hilton Xi'an. We trust the Hilton brand for its consistency: open a branch in New York, Tokyo or Xi'an and the beds, bathrooms and Hilton Honors perks stay the same. This one stands out for sitting inside the Ming city wall while keeping the brand's polish intact. It's a 30-plus-floor tower with 339 rooms in a modern-Eastern style, all gold and brown Han-Tang tones, with a high-ceiling lobby, a café, and an Executive lounge that Honors Gold members and up use for free.
Food and amenities
It's genuinely full-service. There's a 25-metre heated indoor pool open year-round, a 24-hour gym, and the eforea spa, Hilton's own brand. The main restaurant, Elements, runs an international breakfast buffet that's included for Executive guests, while the Chinese restaurant, Chen, leans into Shaanxi and Cantonese dishes. The rooftop bar looks out over the city wall and is at its best at sunset. The real guest score lands around 9.6, the highest in this article.
Location and getting there
It sits at 199 Dongxinji Street in the Dongmutoushi pocket, a little quieter than the Bell Tower side but still walkable to everything. We timed the walk to the Bell Tower at 12 minutes (about 1 km), and the climb up the Ming wall at the south gate, Yongningmen, takes 10 minutes. Rent a bike up top for $6 per 100 minutes and ride the full 14 km loop — seeing all of Xi'an from above is hard to forget. The railway station is about a 15-minute walk, or take Metro Line 4 from Wulukou, just 2 stops.
Things to know before booking
Starting rates are the highest on this list, from about $91 a night. The old-town streets around the Bell Tower and Muslim Quarter stay busy and crowded, so this isn't the pick if you want quiet. And in high season the rooms fill fast — book ahead, because it's a popular, high-scoring hotel.
Our take
Hilton Xi'an fits honeymooning couples, business travelers and families who want a major brand inside the city wall. We give it 9.4 and real guests give it 9.6 — the best luxury pick here if budget isn't the issue.
