Picture one of Asuncion's wide new avenues lined with glass towers, malls and European car showrooms — that's Aviadores del Chaco, the fast-growing business spine of the Paraguayan capital, and the Holiday Inn Express Asuncion Aviadores by IHG is one of the newest blocks on it. The Next Gen design runs a clean white-blue-grey palette: a tall lobby behind a wall of glass, check-in on the left, a soft lounge with a long work table opposite. Inside the roughly 130 rooms, the layout is pure function — not huge, but every square meter earns its place, in white and blue against pale wood. The signature Express bed comes with four pillows in firm and soft, on a fairly firm mattress that reviewers say holds the back well without sinking. There's a work desk at the window with USB ports built into the edge, a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, a kettle, and a strong rain shower over new tile with the chain's Aromae toiletries. There are no balconies on either side, so a view isn't the draw here.

Food and amenities

The food story is simple and it's the reason the price works: every night includes the free Express Start breakfast, served 6-10 am — eggs done several ways, ham and bacon, pancakes, yogurt, fresh fruit, bread, cereal, juice and bottomless coffee. There's no dinner restaurant in the building, which is standard for the brand. Walk through the lobby to the back and you hit the small surprise: an outdoor pool ringed by lounge chairs, which most Express hotels at this price skip entirely. Round it out with high-speed Wi-Fi good enough to stream, a 24-hour gym, and free in-building parking. The air-con is strong enough to beat Asuncion's summer heat, which pushes past 35C. None of it is flashy, but it's all new and it all works.

Location and getting there

The location is what sells the place to business travelers: Silvio Pettirossi International Airport (ASU) is just 5 km away — a 10-minute drive from the terminal to the lobby, with an Uber around $4-7. That's ideal for an overnight transit, a late flight or a dawn departure when you don't want a long ride into the center. The neighborhood stacks Asuncion's best conveniences right around you: a 5-10 minute walk to Paseo La Galeria, the city's biggest, most modern mall, plus Shopping del Sol nearby — both packed with Paraguayan restaurants, steakhouses, food courts, supermarkets and brand stores. If you rented a car you're set, with free parking and the Autopista Nu Guasu putting the old-town center and the Paraguay River port 15-20 minutes away off-peak. Plenty of multinational head offices, embassies and a convention center sit close, which is why corporate teams use this as a base. The historic riverfront and Costanera are still only a 15-minute Uber away.

Things to know before booking

Straight talk to help you decide: this place sells function, not luxury. Rooms are standard chain size, every one in the same clean palette, and if you want a balcony, a clever view or an in-room tub, look elsewhere. As with every Holiday Inn Express, there's no dinner restaurant on-site — only the free breakfast — so dinner means a walk to Paseo La Galeria or delivery, which is less fun on a rainy night. Aviadores del Chaco itself is a business district that thins out and quiets down after dark; if you're heading back late, an app-hailed Uber or taxi beats a long walk. A few reviews note the pool is smaller than expected with no pool bar — fine for a cool-off, not a resort centerpiece. Check-in can build a short queue on busy days, so register for IHG One Rewards ahead to skip it. And rooms on the main road may catch some early-morning traffic noise — ask for a high floor on the inside for the quietest sleep.

After reading the real reviews and comparing it to the other branded hotels in Asuncion, the Holiday Inn Express Asuncion Aviadores by IHG is the no-overthinking answer to "where do I stay in Paraguay without a miss" — a brand-new, spotless block from a brand with clear standards, free breakfast, Wi-Fi and parking, close to the airport and the city's biggest malls, at roughly half the price of a downtown five-star. It's best for business travelers, overnight transit, self-drive road-trippers and families who'd rather have a trusted brand than gamble on an inconsistent local hotel. If your trip is about riverside luxury or really soaking up the old town, a downtown boutique fits better. But if the heart of your trip is convenience, safety and value, this is Asuncion's best value, full stop. We give it 8.4/10.
