In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The lobby at Holiday Inn Harbin City Centre is wide and done in warm brown tones, with a Christmas tree lit up all year because this is an ice city. The Standard King runs about 28 sqm, with a firm king bed, a work desk by the window, a minibar, a fridge and a Nespresso machine. The underfloor heating in the bathroom helps a lot when it is -25°C outside. In total there are 155 rooms including suites.
Food and amenities
Our favorite part is Le Petit Paris on the 2nd floor, which serves free afternoon tea to every guest from 14:00 to 17:00 — macarons, scones and Darjeeling. The international breakfast buffet brings out Harbin sausage and crisp-edged, soft-centered lieba bread. Being a newer IHG property, it runs robot delivery for food and water to your room. There is a 24-hour gym, free parking, free luggage storage and 100 Mbps Wi-Fi. Real guest scores sit high at 9.4 from over 5,300 reviews.
Location and getting there
The hotel stands on Jingwei Road in Daoli District, right where the Central Street pedestrian zone (Zhongyang Dajie) begins. Step out the door, walk 350 meters and you are on the Russian-style cobblestones. Another 5 minutes and 450 meters brings you to Saint Sophia Cathedral, the 1907 Orthodox church that is the city's icon. The flood-control monument and the Songhua River sit at the end of the street, 700 meters away. Harbin railway station is 2.5 km off, about a 10-minute taxi.
Things to know before booking
This is a 4-star hotel with no swimming pool, so if an indoor pool matters to you the nearby 5-star places do that better. The Central Street area is busy and gets crowded, especially during the Ice Festival, so light sleepers should ask about a quieter room. And like everywhere in Harbin, rates climb and rooms fill fast during the festival — book well ahead.
Our take
Holiday Inn Harbin City Centre is best for travelers who want a trusted brand on a mid-range budget, with a location that puts every Daoli landmark within walking distance. This is the best-value pick in our list for couples and small families spending 3 to 4 days in Harbin, with rooms starting around $51 a night.
