In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The hotel opened in 2020, so all 304 rooms feel spotless and brand-new. The room reviewers point to is the Refresh Twin — 21 sqm, and on a high north-side floor it looks out over the station and the city. It is done in a modern brown-and-gray scheme, with a soft Sealy bed, fast Wi-Fi, a 50-inch flat-screen TV and a fridge. The two things you rarely get at this price: a clothes steamer and a microwave in the room. If you are crossing several cities and reheating a konbini meal at midnight, that combination is heaven. The bathroom splits the tub from a Japanese-style shower and includes a full bidet toilet. The whole hotel is smoke-free.
Food and amenities
The thing guests keep calling better than expected is the breakfast. It is served buffet-style in the ground-floor restaurant and leans hard into Hokkaido dishes — fresh grilled salmon, boiled Hokkaido crab, ikura over Hokkaido rice, curry soup, mini-bowl miso ramen, local pickles, cold Hokkaido milk and Hokkaido grape juice. Folding it into your room package costs less than paying at the counter. Mornings get busy, so go before 7:30 or after 9:00.
Location and getting there
This is the whole point of the hotel: it is a 4-minute walk from the south exit of JR Sapporo Station and just 2 minutes from exit 24 of the Namboku subway line. If you are hauling a 23kg bag through the snow, that distance is everything. Reviewers describe arriving from New Chitose Airport on the Rapid Airport Express, getting off at Sapporo and dragging their luggage along the underground walkway to the hotel without stepping into the snow once. Sapporo Station is the transfer point for the limited express Hokuto to Hakodate, the Lilac to Asahikawa, the Furano Lavender Express to Furano and local trains to Otaru — so staying this close saves both time and taxi fare.
Things to know before booking
The design is plain and function-first, so don't come expecting boutique-hotel flair. There is no onsen, spa or swimming pool here — it is a base for sleeping and rail-hopping, not a destination in itself. And the Standard rooms are a fairly compact 17-19 sqm; if you want more space, the Refresh Twin we stayed in runs 21 sqm.
Our take
Hotel Forza Sapporo Station suits business travelers, couples, families and anyone using Sapporo as a rail base for the rest of Hokkaido. We'd recommend it honestly — if what you measure is a station-close location, the cleanliness of new rooms and a Hokkaido breakfast worth the price, this is the most well-rounded pick on the list. The real-guest score sits at 9.0, and rates start around $63 a night.
