In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Superior Twin Bay Side runs 24 sqm from about $120 a night and looks straight out over USJ, the Tempozan Ferris Wheel and Osaka Bay. Two Twin beds at 110×195 cm use France Bed mattresses with crisp, clean linen, and the look is modern minimal in beige and navy. You get a 43-inch Smart TV, a mini fridge and a Nespresso machine. The bathroom is a standard Japanese 4 sqm unit bath — compact but complete, with a Toto Washlet and a short tub.
Food and amenities
The real draw is the S-PARK Spa on the 31st floor, $14 per person, open 12:00 to 24:00. Inside there is an indoor and outdoor onsen, a wood sauna, a jacuzzi and a full vanity area stocked with Aesop and Shiseido. The outdoor bath is where you want to be — the whole city, USJ lit up, and the Tempozan wheel turning, best of all around 18:00 as the sunset washes everything orange and gold. Reviewers call it a genuinely relaxing reset after a full day on your feet in the park. Breakfast is at Restaurant Universal on floor 2, a $19 buffet of around 60 dishes — miso soup, grilled saba, tamagoyaki, fresh bread, a wagyu BBQ, drip coffee and fresh orange juice. Kids gravitate to the pancake station with its syrup and fresh whipped cream.
Location and getting there
This is a 31-floor tower that stands out right by JR Universal City Station — under a minute from the platform to the lobby. From Shin-Osaka it is about a 12-minute ride on the JR Loop Line. Coming from Kansai Airport, the direct Limousine Bus stops at Universal City Walk, about 300 metres and a 3-minute walk away. The lobby is wide with a 6-metre ceiling, navy-and-gold carpet and classic leather sofas, and there are six check-in counters to handle the crowds.
Things to know before booking
The S-PARK Spa is not included in your room rate — it is an extra $14 per guest, or $17 for general entry, so a couple should plan on roughly $28 to soak together. Standard rooms sit at 23 sqm, on the smaller side for the area, and that unit bath gives you only a short tub. The front desk runs English, Mandarin and Korean but no Thai, and the check-in queue can stretch on school-holiday evenings even with all six counters open.
Our take
Keihan Universal Tower is the value pick of the USJ Official Hotels — from about $109 a night, roughly 10% under Park Front, you still get the 360-degree sky spa, a 1-minute walk from the station and 5 minutes to USJ. The 9.0/10 across 1,876 reviews backs it up. It is the one to book if you are a couple who wants a spa after a day in the park, or a family that wants to be right by the station to take on the rest of Osaka the next morning.
