In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The rooms are standard 3-star Alpine — clean, right-sized, nothing fussy. The ones to ask for are the upper south-facing rooms, which look straight at the Eiger; reviewers keep saying they didn't expect a view like that from a 3-star. Rooms facing the main street can catch some car noise at night, so request an inside room or a higher floor for quiet. Standard rooms are fine for the price, but if the gap is small the Superior is worth it. Bathrooms are clean and the Wi-Fi is free.
Food and amenities
The ground-floor restaurant serves traditional Swiss food — Rösti, Älplermagronen, cheese fondue and seasonal steaks — and locals come in to eat, which tells you plenty. Breakfast is a Swiss 3-star buffet: homemade bread, cheese, ham, yogurt and eggs cooked to order. There's no pool and no spa here, so set expectations on that front. The front desk can book your Jungfraujoch tickets and First activities, and there's guest parking for a small fee.
Location and getting there
You're in the middle of Grindelwald on Dorfstrasse, the main street. It's about 5 minutes on foot to Grindelwald Bahnhof, 5 to 8 minutes to the Männlichen Gondola, and roughly 10 minutes to the First Gondola. With a Guest Card the free village bus makes it all even easier. That makes it a strong base for Jungfraujoch, the First Cliff Walk, and a day out to Lauterbrunnen and Trümmelbach Falls.
Things to know before booking
There is no pool and no spa — if you want a sauna or a soak after a long hike, this isn't the one. Street-facing rooms can pick up traffic at night, so ask for an inside or rear room. And the standard rooms run on the compact side; pay the small step up to Superior if you can.
Our take
At an 8.5/10 and rooms from about $177 a night, Kreuz & Post is the pick if you'd rather spend on the mountains than the mattress. You give up the pool and spa, but you keep the central location, the Eiger view from the right rooms, and a Swiss restaurant the locals rate — a better base than the price suggests.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- The most affordable 3-star in central Grindelwald, with rooms from around $177 a night — money you can put toward the Jungfraujoch train instead.
- Eiger views from many of the rooms; ask for an upper south-facing one when you book and you get the mountain straight ahead.
- The in-house restaurant serves traditional Swiss food — Rösti, Älplermagronen, cheese fondue and seasonal steaks — and locals turn up to eat there, which is always a good sign.
- Central village location, so it's an easy walk to every gondola and train station: 5 minutes to the Bahnhof, 5 to 8 to Männlichen, about 10 to First.
- Solid base for the big days out — Jungfraujoch, the First Cliff Walk, and the Lauterbrunnen and Trümmelbach Falls tour are all easy from here.
- There's no swimming pool and no spa — if you want a sauna or a soak after hiking, look at Hotel Spinne or the Belvedere instead.
- Rooms facing the main street can pick up car noise on some nights; ask for an inside or rear-facing room, or one on a higher floor.
- Standard rooms are merely right-sized rather than roomy — if the price gap is small, the Superior is the better buy.
