In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
This hotel was renamed from Hotel Unizo Tokyo Ginza-itchome to KOKO Hotel Ginza 1-Chome in 2021 — same building and service, with new management and a partial room renovation. It is a 3-star property in the KOKO Hotels chain, set in a modern 14-floor building at 1-9-5 Ginza. There are 305 modern, compact rooms built to the standard Tokyo business-hotel spec. Every room has a trouser press, air-con, a flat-screen satellite TV, a mini-fridge and a bathroom with a bidet, bathtub and separate toilet, plus a hairdryer and shower cap. The 15 sqm Double is small but well laid out, with space for luggage and a built-in desk. The most recently renovated rooms use a wood-tone palette with grey fabric that looks current.
Food and amenities
The feature that makes this place popular with business travellers is the in-house wellness centre plus a 24-hour bar — reviews mention getting back from Ginza at 1am and still being able to try a cocktail. Staff speak good English, Wi-Fi is free throughout, the desk runs 24 hours and luggage storage is free. Breakfast is not included; it costs around $12 extra.
Location and getting there
The location is excellent for shopping and eating in Ginza. From Ginza-itchome metro Exit 7 it is just 1 minute to the lobby — the closest of all 10 hotels to Ginza. It is a 5-minute walk to Ginza Mitsukoshi and GINZA SIX, 8 minutes to Kyobashi, 10 minutes to Yurakucho and Tokyo Station, and 12 minutes to Tsukiji Outer Market.
Things to know before booking
Rooms are compact at 13-15 sqm, standard for a Japanese business hotel but tight if you like to spread out — book the 15 sqm Double over the 13 sqm Single. Breakfast is not included and runs about $12 extra. And this is an older building than the newer hotels nearby, so some rooms can look well-used.
Our take
KOKO Hotel Ginza 1-Chome suits Ginza shoppers, travellers who want to be near Tokyo Station on a budget, and business guests who get back late. If you plan to spend most of your trip in Ginza and want a walk back to the hotel of under 5 minutes after dinner, this is the closest answer in the list. It scores 8.8/10 on Trip.com, from about $96 a night.
