In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Rooms run roughly 32 to 38 sq m, dressed in mid-tone modern wood furniture set off by gold-toned curtains. The bed is a large size on a thick, soft mattress, and you get a real choice of outlook here: three view types — City, Lake, and Mountain on the back side of the hotel. Reviewers describe a straightforward, comfortable 4-star room rather than a design statement, and that is exactly the point at this price.
Food and amenities
The feature that earns this hotel its score is the restaurant on the 19th floor, the Sky Restaurant, which opens onto a panorama of West Lake. At sunset, reviewers say the view is genuinely good. Many recommend the Dongpo Pork set with fresh Longjing (Dragon Well) tea, and a dinner course starts at around $26 to $40 per person — cheap for the view you get. Staff will hold a window table if you call ahead. The hotel also has a gym, 24-hour service and free Wi-Fi.
Location and getting there
Huachen International Hotel sits in central Hangzhou, an easy 10-minute walk from West Lake. Hubin Pedestrian Street — the lakeside shopping strip — and the old Hefang Street are both within 1.5 km. Dingan Road MRT on line 1 is a 6 to 7 minute walk, and line 1 gets you to Hangzhou East Railway Station in about 20 minutes. For us, this kind of location at a 4-star price is hard to find in Hangzhou.
Things to know before booking
The facilities here are more basic than the 5-star hotels elsewhere on this list, so come for the location and the view rather than the spa. The surrounding city-center neighborhood is busy and crowded, which can mean noise and foot traffic outside. And in high season rooms go fast, so book ahead if your dates are locked in.
Our take
Huachen International Hotel Hangzhou is best for couples and families who want a spacious 4-star room near the lake on a budget of under about $71 a night. We keep recommending it for the 19th-floor restaurant and the walkable location, and at roughly half the price of the Wyndham on this list reviewers report a surprisingly close experience. Real guests rate it around 9.4 on Trip.com, and rooms start near $51 a night — which makes it the best-value pick on our list.
