In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Inside there are 234 rooms and suites done in a modern, contemporary style — warm beige and brown tones typical of Eastern Europe, built more for easy use than heavy decoration. Deluxe rooms start at 32 square metres, noticeably bigger than the standard for comparable hotels in the region. Open the door and you get a sitting area with a sofa, a long desk, and a soft, firm king bed that plenty of reviews single out as especially comfortable. The marble bathroom has a tub and a separate shower with strong, steady hot water. The point everyone agrees on is the view — rooms facing Sofiyivska Square, especially on floors 6 to 9, look straight onto the gold domes and bell tower of Saint Sophia, from the early light catching the dome to the building lit up at night. Most rooms are well soundproofed, the free Wi-Fi is fast, and every room has a Nespresso machine.
Food and amenities
If you ask what guests bring up most about the Hyatt Regency Kyiv, the answer is the indoor pool — about 22 metres long under a big curved glass roof, heated and open all year. A lot of reviews call it the best-looking and best-feeling hotel pool in Kyiv, and in winter, when it is below freezing outside, soaking in warm water under a glass roof with natural light coming through is hard to find anywhere else. There are loungers around it for resting. One floor up, the 8th-floor Wellness Floor is the other highlight — the Comme Il Faut spa, a Finnish sauna, a full gym and several treatment rooms, with big glass walls opening onto a rare panoramic view of the gold domes of Sofia and St. Michael's. You can be on the treadmill looking out over the green roofs of the old town. Down in the lobby, Grill Asia is the main restaurant, with a breakfast buffet that keeps earning good reviews — fresh eggs made to order, pancakes made fresh, newly baked bread, and hot European and Asian dishes — plus a Lobby Lounge for coffee or a cold cocktail in a calm setting.
Location and getting there
Picture this — you wake up in Kyiv, walk over and pull back the curtains, and the first thing you see is the gold domes of the nearly thousand-year-old Saint Sophia Cathedral right across the street. That is what this hotel sells like no other in the city. The building is a modern 9-floor glass tower designed by the Yanko studio, open since 2007, on Alla Tarasova Street right next to Sofiyivska Square in the historic heart of Kyiv. It is a 1-minute walk across the street to the UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, about 4 minutes to St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, and around 10 minutes down to the Andriyivskyy Descent, a romantic walking street lined with craft shops, paintings and cafes. A car to Khreshchatyk or Maidan Nezalezhnosti is only 5-10 minutes. Zoloti Vorota metro station (M3 green line) is about a 7-minute walk, and Boryspil airport (KBP) is 40-50 minutes by car. For a first-timer who wants a base for the old town, it works perfectly.
Things to know before booking
Straight talk to help you decide — the most important thing to check first is the brand status. This hotel operated officially under the Hyatt brand before 2022. After the events of February 2022, several international hotel chains in Ukraine saw their status change: some kept operating as usual, some moved to local management but stayed open, and some closed temporarily. We recommend that before every booking you confirm directly with Hyatt or through Booking.com that the hotel is still open, still under the Hyatt brand, and that the World of Hyatt program still applies — because if it has left the chain, the points program will not work. The other gripe from real reviews is that the hotel feels like a modern business hotel built for convenience, not the flashy super-luxury of a Fairmont or the classic historic property many people expect from Kyiv; if you are after old-world Eastern European grandeur, it may feel plain. The hotel restaurant menu also runs about 2-3 times pricier than local places in Podil or along Khreshchatyk, so for authentic Ukrainian food on a budget, walk out and try spots outside the hotel. Rates over Christmas, Orthodox Easter or high season can climb fairly high, so book ahead and compare across channels.
Our take
After reading through hundreds of real reviews on Agoda, Booking and TripAdvisor, the Hyatt Regency Kyiv is the hotel that sells the most central, historic location in Kyiv, roomy rooms where many open the curtains straight onto Saint Sophia's gold domes, a glass-roof indoor pool many rank first in the city, and a panoramic 8th-floor spa — the full package. It suits romantic couples, first-time luxury travelers who want a base for the old town, and business guests who need meeting rooms and international-standard service. But if you are really after a classic historic hotel or an old Eastern European boutique, the modern design here may not be your spec — and most important, always check the brand status with Hyatt or Booking before you plan your trip, because the post-2022 situation has shifted the status of international chains in Kyiv. Overall we give it 8.7/10 for a location, pool and spa you cannot find anywhere else in the city.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- Top-tier central location on Alla Tarasova Street next to Sofiyivska Square. The thousand-year-old Saint Sophia Cathedral is directly across the street, a 1-minute walk, and St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery plus the Andriyivskyy Descent walking street are all within reach on foot.
- The roughly 22-metre indoor pool sits under a curved glass roof, and a lot of reviews call it the best and most photogenic hotel pool in Kyiv. The water is heated and it stays open all year, which makes it a real draw in winter.
- The 8th-floor Wellness Floor packs in the Comme Il Faut spa, a sauna, a gym and treatment rooms, with glass walls that open onto a panoramic view of Sofia's gold dome and the green roofs of the old town.
- Rooms run larger than the Eastern European standard, with deluxes from 32 sq m. Many face the square, so you open the curtains to the gold dome straight away. Beds are soft, the hot water is strong, and reviews praise how quiet the rooms are and the quality of the mattresses.
- The breakfast buffet at the Grill Asia restaurant is known for fresh eggs, pancakes made to order, freshly baked bread, and hot European and Asian dishes. Plenty of reviews say it makes the rate feel worth it right away.
- The hotel's status under the Hyatt brand has been uncertain since 2022, as with several international chains in Ukraine. Before booking, confirm directly with Hyatt or through Booking that the hotel is still open and still operating under the brand.
- The overall feel is a modern business hotel built for function rather than flashy super-luxury decor. Travelers expecting a classic, grand Eastern European historic property may find it a little plain.
- Rates climb fairly high during festivals and high season, and the hotel restaurant menu runs 2-3 times pricier than places of the same kind outside the area. For cheaper, authentic food it is worth walking out to local spots in Podil or along Khreshchatyk.

Insider Tips
- Ask for a high floor facing Sofiyivska Square when you book — waking up to the full gold dome of Saint Sophia through the curtains is worth far more than a room facing the back.
- Hit the pool and spa early, between 7 and 9 am, when it is quietest, so you can soak and use the sauna with the city view before heading out, then go down for the breakfast buffet later in the morning.
- Before booking, check the brand status on Hyatt.com or Booking.com to be sure it is still run by Hyatt — if it is not, it may affect your World of Hyatt program.
