In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The interior follows the newer ibis look: bright red — China's signature colour and the brand's own — cut against white and wood, so the lobby reads lively rather than generic budget. Rooms run about 20-25 sq m, the compact-but-complete ibis format. The Sweet Bed by ibis is the brand signature — a firm-soft mattress with a choice of pillows — and reviewers say it sleeps better than plenty of 4-star beds. The bathroom has a separate shower over clean tiled floor, nothing fancy but well kept.
Food and amenities
The restaurant runs 24 hours, and there's a small bar pouring coffee and a cold beer after a day out. Free Wi-Fi is fast and reliable, which matters more than it sounds at this price. Beyond that the facilities are deliberately basic — this is a budget property, so there's no pool, gym or spa. What you're paying for is the bed, the brand standard and the location, and on those it delivers.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits in Shangcheng district, the old-town side of Hangzhou. West Lake is about 1.2 km away — an easy 15-minute walk — and it's under 600 m on foot to Hefang Street, the old market lane stacked with antiques and street food. Wushan Square and an old temple are within a 1 km walk, and Dingan Road station on MRT line 1 is close by for reaching the rest of the city. For us, this kind of walkable central spot at a 3-star rate was the main reason to pick it.
Things to know before booking
Rooms are compact at 20-25 sq m — fine for a short stay, tight if you like to spread out. Facilities stop at the restaurant and small bar, so don't expect a pool or spa. And because the rate is low and the location central, rooms fill quickly in high season — book ahead. One housekeeping note: this is a stand-in for the original number six, ibis Hangzhou Nansong Yujie, whose booking page we couldn't reach, so we swapped in this comparable ibis branch.
Our take
ibis Hotel Hangzhou West Lake Jiefang Road is best for backpackers, shoppers and short trips that want a trusted brand near the lake without paying luxury money. Rooms start near $36 a night, real guests score it around 9.4 on Trip.com, and the Sweet Bed plus the walk-everywhere location do the heavy lifting. For budget travelers who don't want to give up quality in the West Lake area, we think it's the most down-to-earth pick on this list.
