KH Soon Resthouse is the cheapest place to sleep in central Bandar Seri Begawan — a 2-star spot built around the basics. Location and getting there

The location is the real draw. It sits in central BSB, about a 10-minute walk to the Kampong Ayer pier, where you can hop a boat across to the stilt-house water village strung over the river. Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque is within walking range too, so you can skip taxis and do the old town on foot.

Things to know before booking

Set expectations to functional, not comfortable. Service is very basic, the rooms are small and may feel dated, and there are none of the extras you'd get at a pricier hotel. Small places like this can change fast, so check the most recent reviews before you book. This one really only makes sense for genuinely tight budgets.

Our take

KH Soon earns its place because Brunei has far fewer budget options than its neighbours, and this is the cheapest central base you'll find. If you want to spend your money exploring Brunei rather than on a room, it does the job. But if you can stretch the budget a little, Jubilee Hotel or Centrepoint Hotel are a much better-value step up.
