In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
KOKO HOTEL Sapporo Susukino is a value-focused 3-star in the KOKO HOTEL chain, which Japan's Kintetsu Group has expanded across the country over the past few years under a "Smart Hotel" concept. The idea is clean, new, modern rooms with just the essentials at an accessible price. Rooms are minimalist in dark tones, with standard sizes around 14 to 18 sqm, and they come with a work desk, fridge, kettle, USB charging and a bathroom with a smart washlet toilet. The front desk runs 24 hours, and luggage storage is free before check-in and after check-out.
Food and amenities
What we like most here is the set of extras you don't usually get at this price. There's a coffee machine that's free around the clock in the lobby, a 24-hour front desk, free Wi-Fi, coin-operated self-service laundry, an ice machine and a shared microwave. The in-house restaurant also has halal options, which is genuinely useful for Muslim travelers who otherwise struggle to find halal food in the area. Real guests rate it about 9.0 on Trip.com and 8.8 on Agoda, drawn from more than 800 reviews. Rooms start at roughly $20 a night out of season.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits at Minami 6-jo Nishi 4, on the southern edge of Susukino. It's about a 7-minute walk to Exit 6 of Susukino station on the Namboku line, and within a 10-minute walk of the covered Tanukikoji shopping street. Sapporo's ramen alley is roughly a 5-minute walk, and Nakajima Park is not far south, about 600 metres away. The spot is a touch quieter than the middle of the nightlife zone, but you can still reach the restaurants, izakaya and Sapporo's famous soup curry on foot.
Things to know before booking
It sits on the southern edge of the district, so you're looking at about a 7-minute walk to Susukino station rather than a doorstep connection. This is a 3-star with just-enough facilities — tidy and modern, but no gym or restaurant-bar scene beyond the basics. And note that it replaced the former GRIDS Sapporo Hotel & Hostel, which no longer has a Trip.com booking page.
Our take
KOKO HOTEL Sapporo Susukino suits budget travelers, backpackers and solo trips who want a clean, new room at a low price in Susukino. We like that rooms start at about $20 a night with a 9.0 score from more than 800 reviews, plus a halal menu you won't find at the other hotels here. It's a fitting way to close the list — a pick that works for tight budgets and Muslim travelers alike, and arguably the best value in the district.
