In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Komaneka at Bisma has a location that is genuinely hard to find in a luxury hotel — on the cliff above the Campuhan valley, yet still in central Ubud, a 10-minute walk from Ubud Palace and the Ubud Art Market. The resort is split into 22 villas that step down the cliffside, surrounded by green gardens and palm trees. The villas run 100 to 300 sqm and mix traditional Balinese architecture with modern comfort, and each one has a private balcony looking over the valley. The Pool Villas add a private pool that juts out over the gorge — one reviewer wrote that they "woke up to the most beautiful view of my life." Bathrooms are semi-outdoor, with an outdoor shower.
Food and amenities
The restaurant, Tokasiki, serves Balinese-Japanese fusion on a terrace over the valley. The breakfast buffet is included in the rate and covers both Balinese and Western dishes. The spa sits in the garden and uses traditional Balinese massage and herbal treatments. There is also an art gallery inside the resort showing contemporary Balinese work — a nice touch you do not get everywhere.
Location and getting there
The location is the real selling point. The Campuhan Ridge Walk starts close to the hotel — you can head straight out, do the 2 km ridge over rice fields and forest, and be back for breakfast. The Ubud market is a 15-minute walk, the Sacred Monkey Forest is also about 15 minutes on foot, and Ngurah Rai (Denpasar) airport is roughly an hour by car. This is a luxury hotel where you can genuinely get around on foot.
Things to know before booking
The villas step down the cliff, so some of them involve a lot of stairs — worth flagging if you have older guests or anyone with mobility issues. A private pool comes only with certain Pool Villa types; everyone else shares the infinity pool, which itself looks over Campuhan Ridge. And this is a boutique cliffside property rather than a large estate, so it does not have the grounds-and-private-temple scale of Mandapa or Amandari nearby.
Our take
Komaneka at Bisma is the best fit for couples or solo travelers who want both the luxury and a convenient base. At a starting rate of around $510 a night it is the best value in Ubud's 5-star group — you keep the valley views and the infinity pool, but you can also walk out the door and be in the middle of town in ten minutes. It scores 9.3/10.

- There is a contemporary Balinese art gallery inside the resort, which gives the place more character than the usual spa-and-pool setup.
