In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Deluxe King runs 26 sqm and feels brand new: soft lavender walls, cream curtains, a large work desk and a Sleemon mattress with just-right bounce, plus a small cloth sachet pillow that carries a light lavender scent. The bathroom is new, finished in clean white tile, with both a rain shower and a handheld, and lavender-scented branded toiletries. You also get a 55-inch Smart TV, a capsule coffee machine, an electric kettle and a minibar stocked with 2 water bottles, tea, coffee and seasonal fruit. Wi-Fi runs at 50 Mbps and comes free.
Food and amenities
The Chinese-Western breakfast costs $7 and covers dim sum, congee, fried eggs, bacon and fruit — strong value for a chain at this level. The lobby keeps a free fruit-and-tea dispenser running all day, there's a coin laundry with a dryer on floor 2, and free luggage storage is open 24 hours. A Baiyun airport shuttle runs about $21 per seat, and Plateno Club members earn points toward free nights across the group's other brands. As an upscale lavender-themed lifestyle brand, Lavande leans on that faint lavender scent from a lobby diffuser as its signature.
Location and getting there
Xiaobei sits east of the Guangzhou Railway Station district and runs quieter than the busy Sanyuanli and Liuhua wholesale blocks. It's also the city's Little Africa & Arab Quarter, with the most Turkish, Lebanese, Egyptian and Somali restaurants in Guangzhou — handy if you've had your fill of Chinese food. Xiaobei MRT on Line 5 (Exit E) is a 3-minute walk; ride 2 stops to Guangzhou Railway Station in 5 minutes. For the leather market, transfer to Line 2 one stop to Sanyuanli — about 12 minutes door to stalls. Line 5 also runs straight to Pazhou (Canton Fair), 9 stops in 22 minutes.
Things to know before booking
This is a chain hotel, so amenities stay basic — essentials done well rather than full-service extras. The Xiaobei base means you're away from the leather wholesale stalls, with one transfer between you and Sanyuanli. And rooms fill fast during the Canton Fair, so lock in your dates early if they overlap the trade season. Worth knowing too: this property replaced the old #10, The Harbour Hotel, after its booking page stopped working.
Our take
We close the list with Lavande Xiaobei for travelers who like a new, clean hotel with a current look, families who want somewhere quieter than the wholesale district, and anyone keen to try the Middle Eastern food around Xiaobei. For about $40 you get a 26 sqm room, a Sleemon mattress, that lavender touch and a spot 200m from Line 5 — a modern, reliable way to end the list.
