In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The entry-level Deluxe runs about 42 sqm, noticeably larger than the Chiang Rai average, finished in a modern style that mixes in Lanna fabrics and timber. The Le Meridien bed is thick and soft, and the bathroom splits a separate tub from a rain shower, with the kind of linens you expect from a real 5-star. Staff at reception are local Chiang Rai kids who speak good English and smile the way the north does. Cleanliness and service both score above 9.3 on the reviews, and we agree completely.
Food and amenities
The grounds run to roughly 11 rai of big shade trees, with a long resort-style outdoor pool down the middle. Latest Recipe is the riverside restaurant, and Latitude 19 Bar is where you sit with a glass of wine and watch the sun drop over the water. There's a fitness centre and Le Spa, open 10:00 to 22:00 every day. Early on the room balcony you'll catch thin mist drifting over the river — the kind of view only Chiang Rai hands you.
Location and getting there
The resort sits on the Kok River about 2 km from the Chiang Rai Clock Tower. We used it as a base for three easy trips: a 15-minute drive to the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun, the work of Chalermchai Kositpipat), 10 minutes to the Blue Temple (Wat Rong Suea Ten), and another 15 minutes to Baan Dam (the Black House museum of Thawan Duchanee). In the evening you swim, then take the resort shuttle into town for the Night Bazaar.
Things to know before booking
This is the highest starting price on the list — from around $100 a night, up to about $186 for the top rooms. It also sits 2 km outside the downtown core, so you'll lean on the shuttle or a car to reach the walking street rather than strolling there. And rooms fill quickly in high season — the cool-season months pull crowds to Chiang Rai, so book ahead if you're coming late in the year.
Our take
Le Meridien Chiang Rai Resort suits couples, honeymooners and families who want a calm riverside resort as their base for the White Temple, Doi Tung and the Golden Triangle. The keyword here is quiet — quiet, calm, and the same standard as Marriott worldwide. We put it at #1 on the Chiang Rai list with confidence: if the budget stretches and you want the full experience, this is the answer.
