In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Premium Twin Sakurajima View runs 28 sqm at around $166 a night, and the window looks out over Osaka Bay, USJ lit up after dark, and the Tempozan Ferris Wheel turning in the distance. You get two 120×203 cm twin beds — wider than the average — dressed with Simmons Beautyrest mattresses and Tempurpedic memory-foam pillows. There's a 50-inch Smart TV and a Bose Bluetooth speaker, and the 5 sqm marble bathroom packs in a jacuzzi tub, a rain shower, a Toto Washlet and a full four-piece set of Aesop amenities.
Food and amenities
The hotel runs two restaurants. The Restaurant on the 2nd floor does a breakfast buffet at ¥3,200 (about $22) spanning 70 dishes — Japanese and American spreads, a wagyu beef bowl, and fresh macarons and croissants. Dinner there is a 7-course set at ¥6,800 (about $46) per person, running through sea bream, A5 wagyu, foie gras and a yuzu tart. Up on the 14th floor beside the spa, the Lounge Bar pours craft beer and cocktails, with a couple package at ¥4,800 (about $33) for two drinks and an appetizer. The concierge sells USJ tickets and Express Passes at a ¥500 (about $3.40) discount off gate price.
Location and getting there
Liber sits in Sakurajima, a quiet residential pocket away from the bustle of Universal City Walk. The building is 15 floors in blue and white, with a lobby under a 7-metre ceiling finished in cream marble, walnut, and a giant cherry-blossom mural. The trade-off for the calm is distance: it's a 10-to-15-minute walk to USJ, or you ride the free shuttle from the pick-up point by Universal City Walk, which runs every 15 minutes and takes about 5 minutes.
Things to know before booking
The catch is the location — at a 10-to-15-minute walk from USJ, this is farther out than the City Walk hotels, and while the free shuttle helps, it only comes every 15 minutes and fills up at peak hours, so build in a little buffer. The spa is genuinely good but priced at the top end: the couples massage is ¥18,000 (about $122) for two. And as a standard Japanese onsen, the Sakurajima Onsen won't admit uncovered tattoos — you'll need a large cover sticker, sold in the lobby.
Our take
Liber is the most wellness-focused of the Official Hotels. The natural hot-spring onsen, the full spa with its couples massage, the roomy 28 sqm rooms and the Sakurajima views add up to something closer to a resort stay than a park hotel — even though you're still inside Osaka. It scores 8.9/10 from 800-plus reviews, and from about $137 a night it's good value for what you get. If you want to soak and unwind after a long day in the park, this is the pick.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- A real natural hot-spring onsen — the Sakurajima Onsen on the 14th floor, the only genuine onsen among the Official Hotels, free for guests at 41°C with indoor and outdoor baths plus a sauna.
- A full spa: a 60-minute couples massage runs ¥18,000 (about $122) for two, with aromatherapy and body scrubs also on the menu.
- At 760 rooms this is the largest of the Official Hotels, so the facilities are complete — two restaurants, a lounge bar and the spa floor all under one roof.
- Opened in 2021 and a USJ Official Hotel, so guests get Early Park Entry 15 minutes before the public opening.
- A free shuttle runs to the USJ gate every 15 minutes, so you do not have to walk the full distance from Sakurajima.
- It sits in Sakurajima, a 10-to-15-minute walk from USJ — noticeably farther than the hotels right on Universal City Walk.
- The free shuttle only comes every 15 minutes, and at peak hours it fills up so you may have to wait for the next one.
- The spa is premium-priced — the couples massage works out to roughly $61 per person, and a 90-minute aromatherapy session is ¥15,000 (about $102) each.
