In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Deluxe Twin runs 28 sqm with a Simmons mattress and a marble bathroom that splits the tub and shower — comfortable, well-kept space rather than design-hotel flash. There are 237 rooms across the 33-floor tower, and while the exterior still reads like the 1990 state-owned property it is, the rooms and lobby came out of the 2018 renovation more modern than you'd expect. Free Wi-Fi throughout, and on busy promo dates the buffet breakfast is bundled into the rate.
Food and amenities
There's an 18-metre indoor pool on the 4th floor that reviewers single out, plus a fitness room and a sauna, and a spa running Chinese foot and body massage until midnight — a 60-minute foot massage is around $24, and the work is better than a lot of shops in the city. Three restaurants cover the bases: the Cantonese Court for morning dim sum at roughly $4 to $7 a plate, the 24-hour Coffee Garden for Western food, and a Japanese restaurant up on the 30th floor.
Location and getting there
This is the whole reason to book here. Walk out the door, cross the zebra crossing on Huanshi West Road, and you're at the south entrance of Guangzhou Railway Station — a 2-minute walk, with MRT lines 2 and 5 under that same station and metro exit D just 100 metres from the hotel. The 12-floor main building of Baima Clothing City sits beside the station, a real 3-minute walk, with the Liuhua and Zhanxi garment markets also on foot. The provincial bus terminal is 300 metres away, so if you're catching trains or coaches every morning, nothing in the district beats it.
Things to know before booking
The railway-station area is lively and crowded — that congestion is the price of being this close to the platforms and markets. The building dates to 1990, and even after the 2018 refresh the exterior carries an older, state-owned feel rather than a brand-new chain polish, so set expectations on character over newness. And during the Canton Fair, rooms here fill fast — book well ahead if your dates overlap the show.
Our take
Liuhua Hotel suits the wholesale buyers from Thailand, Vietnam and Russia who shop Baima on repeat, business travelers connecting to trains each morning, and families who want a 4-star with a pool without paying 5-star rates. For about $51 you get a spot directly across from the station, a roomy 28 sqm bed and a Chinese foot-massage spa — an older hotel that still holds real loyalty from the people who actually travel through here.
