In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 184 rooms are done in a modern-comfort style with Serta beds, quality linens and marble bathrooms. One guest summed it up as comfortable, reliable Marriott standard with very good staff service — which is about right. Executive Rooms add a seating area and access to the Executive Lounge for Bonvoy Gold and Platinum members. It's not a place you book for design flair; it's a place you book because you know exactly what you're getting.
Food and amenities
There's an indoor pool and a gym that's open 24 hours for guests. Brewers Fayre Restaurant serves British and international plates — think steak burgers and fish and chips — and the hotel bar stays open until midnight. Breakfast is a continental buffet plus a cooked breakfast. The concierge can sort a stadium tour at the Principality Stadium, a Cardiff Castle tour, and theatre bookings at St Davids Hall and the Wales Millennium Centre. Free Wi-Fi runs throughout, and Bonvoy members get a welcome amenity at Gold, Platinum and Titanium tiers.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits on Mill Lane in central Cardiff, right next to St Davids Hall, the main concert hall in Wales. Cardiff Central Station is a 5-minute walk, with trains to London Paddington in 2 hours; the Principality Stadium is also 5 minutes on foot, St David's Shopping Centre is 3 minutes, and Cardiff Castle is about 10 minutes. The Wales Millennium Centre is far enough that a taxi or train makes more sense than walking. This is the most convenient central base in the city if you're traveling by train.
Things to know before booking
The design is standard Marriott chain — dependable rather than stylish, so don't expect boutique character. The Mill Lane side gets heavy weekend traffic, and Caroline Street nearby is full of pubs, which means noise on Friday and Saturday nights; ask for a room on the back of the building. Parking is an extra charge at a multi-storey car park nearby rather than on site, and an airport shuttle is available on request.
Our take
The Cardiff Marriott Hotel earns its 8.5/10 by doing the basics well in a great spot. If you're a Bonvoy regular, want to walk to the station, the stadium and the shops, and value a reliable room over a memorable one, this is an easy pick. Rooms start around $109 a night.
