In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 122 rooms wear the current Mercure look — Mediterranean blue-and-white tones, parquet floors, a king or twin bed, and a footprint of 22 to 28 sq m. Some rooms add a small balcony; the Sea View with Balcony runs about $43 more and is the one to ask for. There's also a Family Room that sleeps four on a sofa-bed, and children under 16 stay free with their parents. It's not full of character — this is chain decor, clean and predictable — but for a family on a budget that's often exactly the point.
Food and amenities
The headline feature is the outdoor pool, open in summer from 10:00 to 19:00. It's unheated and not large, but it's a real pool on the Promenade — rare at this price — with a bar pouring cocktails and snacks beside it. The gym in the lobby covers the basics, a treadmill and dumbbells. The restaurant, Le Cap d'Antibes, does Mediterranean and French plates — bouillabaisse, salade niçoise, pasta — with mains from $24 to $38. Bar Le Galet in the lobby stays open until midnight, pouring cocktails and Provence wine. Breakfast is a buffet at $23 a head, and reviewers call it decent and well-rounded.
Location and getting there
You're on the western end of Promenade des Anglais, directly across from Plage de Carras, the public pebble beach. Old Town is the catch — 2.5 km east, a 30-minute walk or 12 minutes on Tram L1 from the Carras stop for about $1.60. Place Masséna is 8 minutes by tram. Where this hotel wins is the airport: Nice (NCE) is roughly 18 minutes on Tram L2 — closer than anywhere else on this list, which matters if you've got an early flight or a late landing.
Things to know before booking
The biggest compromise is distance from Old Town — at 2.5 km you're committing to the tram or a long walk every time you want the markets and lanes. Breakfast isn't included and runs about $23 per person on top of the room. And the rooms, while clean and well-kept, are standard chain rooms with no real personality — if you came to Nice for Belle Epoque charm, this isn't where you'll find it. The pool is also summer-only and unheated, so off-season it's not in play.
Our take
This is the family-budget pick. If you want to be across the road from the beach and have a pool for the kids, all under a brand you already know, the Mercure delivers that from about $150 a night — a fraction of the 5-stars further east. ALL — Accor members get more value still. The price you pay is the walk to Old Town. If that matters more than the pool, the Aston La Scala or La Perouse sit closer to the lanes; if the pool and the airport run win, this is your hotel.
