In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Our one-bedroom suite ran about 55 sq m and split cleanly into bedroom, living room and kitchen, which is rare at this price. The look is modern-classic — white walls, soft grey and tan accents, wide windows pulling in the city. What sells it is the kitchen: a 2-burner electric stove, microwave, full-size fridge, dishwasher, sink, and a complete set of pots, pans, plates and cutlery. You can genuinely walk over to the Wanda supermarket, grab Changsha crayfish, and cook them in the room. A big sofa, a flat-screen TV and a proper work desk round it out. For a 5 to 7 night trip, this beats a standard hotel room.
Food and amenities
The part we liked most is that the mall is one elevator ride down. Purfu International Plaza packs a shopping mall, cinema, large supermarket and a floor of restaurants into a single building, so on a heavy-rain day we never left — spicy crayfish at a basement spot, then groceries upstairs for breakfast in the room. There is a pool to soak in after a long day out, and the in-room washer-dryer is the quiet hero of any long trip. Housekeeping runs about $11 a visit as an add-on, and pets are welcome if you flag it when booking.
Location and getting there
You are in Kaifu District, north-central Changsha. The honest trade-off: it is not a walk to Wuyi Square or the pedestrian street — figure on roughly a 10-minute drive or a metro hop. But the metro makes the rest of the city easy, including a run out to Orange Isle on the Xiang River. The one catch is the complex itself: it is large, and finding the right entrance and lift bank on your first arrival takes a minute.
Things to know before booking
This is an apartment, not a full-service luxury hotel, so do not expect a grand lobby or round-the-clock room service. It sits away from the Wuyi Square nightlife core, which is a plus if you want quiet and a minus if you want to stumble home from bars. Rooms fill fast in high season — book ahead, and book the kitchen unit specifically if self-catering is the point. First-timers should screenshot the building entrance, because the mall layout is genuinely confusing on day one.
Our take
Modena by Fraser Changsha is the long-stay pick of this list. Rates of about $69 to $129 a night for a Frasers 4-star with a full kitchen, a pool and a mall attached is strong value, and stays of 7 nights or more often shave another 15 to 20 percent off. If you are a family, a business traveler settling in for a week, or anyone who would rather cook than eat out every night, this is where we would stay.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- 4-star serviced apartment in the Frasers Hospitality group, so you get hotel housekeeping with apartment space.
- Apartment-style rooms with a full kitchen — 2-burner stove, full-size fridge, dishwasher and a stocked set of pots, pans and cutlery — plus a separate living area.
- Built into Purfu International Plaza: a shopping mall, cinema, big supermarket and a floor of restaurants are all in the same building, which is a real win on a rainy day.
- Spacious units with modern-classic white and grey-tan decor and wide windows over the city; the ~55 sq m one-bedroom suite splits cleanly into bedroom, living room and kitchen.
- A pool to soak in after a day out, an in-room washer-dryer that earns its keep on long trips, and pets are welcome if you flag it ahead.
- A bit far from Wuyi Square and the pedestrian street — figure on about a 10-minute drive or a metro hop rather than a walk.
- It sits inside a large mixed-use complex, so finding the right entrance and lift bank on your first arrival can be confusing.
- Rooms fill quickly in high season; book ahead, especially if you want the larger one-bedroom suite.

Insider Tips
- Book a unit with the kitchen — if you are staying several nights it pays for itself versus eating out every meal.
- Take the lift straight down to the mall and cinema in the same complex; you barely need to step outside on a wet day.
- Stay 7 nights or more and ask about the long-stay rate — discounts of 15 to 20 percent are common.
