In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Niccolo is Marco Polo's luxury brand, and this one fills floors 28 to 34 of the Chengdu IFS tower — 230 rooms in total. Deluxe rooms start at 50 sq m and the biggest suites push past 100 sq m, all in a clean Modern Classic style with king beds, 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton and full marble bathrooms with a soak tub. The free Nespresso machine and a minibar stocked with local picks like Chengdu jasmine tea are nice touches. Open the curtains and you get a near-180-degree panorama; at night the skyline reads like a sea of light.
Food and amenities
Niccolo Spa runs Shanghai-style massage using Sichuan herbal oils, starting around $110. The gym is open 24 hours with personal trainers on call, and the 20-metre indoor pool sits under panoramic glass for natural light. Breakfast at The Niccolo Kitchen is an international buffet with a fresh dim sum counter and a mala station cooked to order. For dinner, Yue Hin is the Cantonese room that has made the Black Pearl Diamond list for years.
Location and getting there
The view is the part you cannot get elsewhere. North-facing rooms look straight down on the roofs of the thousand-year-old Daci Temple against the modern towers; south-facing rooms catch the city skyline and the Jin River running through it. We would ask for a Premier City View room for the best value. Getting around is just as easy: the lift drops into Taikoo Li, a 2-minute walk reaches the giant panda climbing the IFS facade on Chunxi Road, and metro lines 2 and 3 sit under the building.
Things to know before booking
This is the most expensive stay on our list — rooms start near $155 a night and the suites climb well past $300. The Chunxi Road and Taikoo Li streets below are busy and crowded from morning to night, so do not expect a quiet neighborhood at street level. In high season the skyline-view rooms fill quickly, so book a few weeks ahead to lock in the category you want.
Our take
Niccolo Chengdu is the most lavish option we picked, and it fits couples on a honeymoon, C-suite business travelers, and anyone who wants a skyline-view room for a special occasion. You walk to Taikoo Li and two metro lines, the service holds the Marco Polo standard, and the overall score lands at 9.4. If the budget stretches, try a room at this level once and it is hard to go back.

Insider Tips
- Ask for a Premier City View room facing north for the Daci Temple-and-skyline combination — it is the best value view category.
