In-Depth Review
Pan Pacific Hanoi sits on Truc Bach Lake, a small lake between the Old Quarter and West Lake — a central spot that splits the difference between the two. It's a 20-floor white-and-blue tower that reads modern, right on the water, with a 10-metre lobby and big glass windows looking out over Truc Bach Lake and West Lake beyond. Service moves quickly in the Singapore Pan Pacific style, and the hotel pulls a review score of around 8.9/10 from real guests.
Rooms and decor
The Deluxe Lake View on the 15th floor runs about 40 sqm at roughly $171 a night, done in a contemporary Asian palette of brown, cream and blue. You get a King bed at 200x200 cm, a sofa, a work desk, a 50-inch TV, a minibar and a Nespresso machine. The marble bathroom has a jacuzzi tub, a rain shower, a Toto Washlet, and aromatherapy toiletries. Floor-to-ceiling windows take in Truc Bach Lake, West Lake and the Hanoi skyline — at night the lake lights reflect off the water and it looks great. A City View room costs about $25 less.
Food and amenities
Dinner at Ming Restaurant, Pan Pacific's Cantonese spot (the Singapore group), centers on the Peking duck — order it a day ahead at around $75, tender meat with crisp skin, alongside hand-folded dim sum. The set lunch is about $37 a head, better value than dinner. Pacifica, the international restaurant, does a breakfast buffet at roughly $24 per person, with Vietnamese, Japanese, Western, Indian and Korean all covered. A 90-minute spa session is about $75 — a Vietnamese herbal massage using pandan leaf and lemongrass.
Location and getting there
Walk around Truc Bach Lake in the morning and you'll find the McCain Monument, a small marker for Senator John McCain, who was shot down here in 1967 as a Navy pilot in the Vietnam War. He was held as a POW for 5 years before his release in 1973, and in 2000 he came back to Truc Bach Lake to thank the Vietnamese who pulled him from the water. Keep going about 1 km and you reach Long Bien Bridge, the old French iron bridge built in 1902, stretching 1.7 km across the Red River — especially good at sunset.
Things to know before booking
The trade-off is distance: you're 2.5 km from Hoan Kiem Lake, about an 8-minute taxi, so this isn't a step-out-the-door Old Quarter base. It also doesn't have the wow-factor of InterContinental Westlake and its overwater Pavilion. And as a large property, it feels less exclusive than a boutique. None of that is a dealbreaker — it's just what you're choosing when you book here.
Our take
Pan Pacific Hanoi is the best value in Hanoi's 5-star group — a central spot between the Old Quarter and West Lake, a recognized brand, Ming Restaurant, and that Truc Bach Lake view. It scores 8.9/10 from 3,800+ reviews, and at $157+ it's the cheapest of the Hanoi 5-star pack. Best for couples, families and business travelers who want the Pan Pacific name without needing to sit in the middle of the Old Quarter.
