In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The name says it: posh plus hostel. Resol Poshtel Tokyo Asakusa is a boutique-grade bunk concept from the Resol Hotels group, with design and service pitched at a 3-to-4-star hotel. Rooms run a calm boutique palette of wood, grey and dark green. There are four-to-six-bed dorms from about $40 a night and private rooms for two to four from about $71, and every bunk gets its own reading light, a bedside plug and a proper blackout curtain. The shared bathrooms are split by gender and kept spotless.
Food and amenities
The lobby handles the practical stuff: currency exchange at a better rate than the airport, plus laundry, taxi booking and an English-fluent concierge. Wi-Fi is free and quick — fast enough to stream Netflix. The standout is the top-floor lounge, free to use and looking straight at Tokyo Skytree; go up in the evening when it lights up and the whole thing makes sense.
Location and getting there
It sits just 0.18 km from Asakusa Rockza and the Sensoji temple — a 2-minute walk. Asakusa Station is about 3 minutes on foot, and Ueno is one stop up the JR Yamanote line (around 3 minutes, a $1 fare) or roughly 15 minutes by train, so you get both neighbourhoods from one base.
Things to know before booking
It is pricier than a plain hostel — figure roughly $11-17 a night more for the Resol polish. Ueno is about 1.2 km away, around 15 minutes by JR, so this leans Asakusa rather than Ueno proper. And dorm space is limited — the private rooms in particular fill up fast in cherry-blossom season (March to April), so book well ahead.
Our take
With a Trip.com score of 9.6/10 from 1,077 reviews — the highest of any hostel or poshtel in Tokyo — this is the best-value pick in the group for mid-budget backpackers, solo travelers and couples trying a hostel for the first time. If you want to see how good a hostel can get, start here.
