Anyone traveling with small kids will get it immediately — once the children are asleep, you don't have to sit in silence or retreat to the bathroom. There's an actual living space. The fit-out is comfortable rather than designer, but it works.

Food and amenities

There's a rooftop pool with city views and a gym in the building. The kitchen is the genuine edge here: the supermarket inside Komtar JBCC sits right against the tower, so you can grab groceries and cook in your unit — a real help for families with a picky eater who won't touch the restaurant menu. One honest warning about check-in: this is a big tower with several lobbies, and some guests end up at the wrong entrance trying to find their operator. Confirm the meeting point and key-handover time with your host before you arrive, every time.

Location and getting there

That 9.1/10 location score comes down to one thing — the building connects straight into Komtar JBCC in the city centre, so shopping and food are immediate. JB Sentral and the CIQ checkpoint into Singapore are a 12-15 minute walk. Legoland is a different story: it's a 25 to 30 minute drive out to Iskandar Puteri, so in this lineup Shama Suasana is a central base — hit the park for one day, then come back and cook dinner in your own kitchen.

Things to know before booking

The single most important thing: the building is carved up among many separate unit owners and operators, and the experience swings hard depending on whose unit you book. Some are run directly by Shama/ONYX, others by private owners with their own standards — pick a unit clearly listed under Shama/ONYX, or a host with strong reviews. A few guests report check-in coordination problems, again tied to the multi-operator setup, so lock down the details in advance. And it's not a walk-to-Legoland stay — budget the 25 to 30 minute drive each way.

Our take

For bigger families and longer stays of four nights or more, this is a smart pick — your own kitchen, private living space, and a few meals you don't have to buy out. Over several nights it beats a plain hotel room comfortably. But if you're only in town for a night or two, you won't use the kitchen or the lounge, so the operator lottery isn't worth it — book DoubleTree or Amari instead, where the chain service is steadier and there's no guessing about who runs your room.
