The roughly 299 rooms and suites run a dark, surreal Starck palette: you walk in to deep-toned curtains, a bright marble bathroom, a soft bed piled with pillows, and the playful corners Starck tucks in. Some rooms have a plush soaking tub that opens onto the full turquoise view of Cable Beach. The design is not classic-luxury like a Ritz or soft-luxury like a Rosewood — it is edgy and unafraid. The elevator carpet has a faintly cheeky pattern, the lobby has sculptures that make guests stop and look, and the bathrooms have little details that make you smile. Food and amenities

The heart of a stay at SLS is Privilege, an adults-only pool that feels more like a beach club than a hotel — a pool bar serving cocktails to your lounger, a DJ playing easy music in the afternoon, and double daybeds under shade for watching the light bounce off Cable Beach. It is a lively, grown-up scene, made for couples or groups of friends who want to chill without worrying about other people's kids. Step up into the building and you hit Monkey Bar, a cocktail bar where Starck went all in on the bar, the walls and the photo corners — the drinks are as strong as the name suggests, and every angle works as a backdrop. Food is no worry at all, because the Baha Mar complex together has more than 40 restaurants, from Cleo (renowned Mediterranean food) to Carna by Dario Cecchini (steak from Italy's famous butcher-chef), and SLS guests can easily walk over to eat on the Grand Hyatt or Rosewood side. A little higher up there is the ESPA Spa, shared with the sister hotels in the complex, with a steam room, sauna and couples' treatment rooms, plus a full gym. The Baha Bay waterpark and the Baha Mar casino (the largest in the Caribbean) are also just a few minutes' walk — in short, you barely need to leave the complex the whole trip.

Location and getting there

SLS Baha Mar sits in the heart of the Baha Mar complex, which occupies a stretch of Cable Beach — Nassau's postcard-grade fine white sand and clear turquoise water. You can walk from the lobby, past the pool and down onto the sand in a few minutes. The big location win is Lynden Pindling International (LPIA), only about 10 minutes away by car, closer than most of the luxury resorts on Paradise Island that you have to cross a bridge to reach — very convenient for a short trip. Downtown Nassau, with its Fish Fry market, Fort Charlotte and the cruise port, is about 15 minutes further; taxi, Uber or a rental car all work. Inside the Baha Mar complex itself there is the Royal Blue golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, the Baha Bay waterpark with giant slides and a lazy river, and luxury shops to browse if it rains. What a lot of people love is that everything is behind one fence — pool, dinner, casino, water slides, spa, all done in a day without calling a taxi once.

Things to know before booking

Straight talk to help you decide — the first thing to weigh is that the SLS wing is lifestyle/party, built around a lively scene for couples and small friend groups. If you are coming as a family with young kids, this wing may not fit, because Privilege is adults-only and the pool-party music carries to the rooms at times. Consider booking the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar or Rosewood Baha Mar wing in the same complex instead; you can still share the facilities. Second, the total cost runs higher than the booking page shows, with a nightly resort fee plus luxury-priced food and drink across the complex — if you want to save, plan to eat some meals downtown instead. Third, some reviews flag uneven service in peak season, like long check-in waits when it is crowded, slow room service, or pool noise on some nights disrupting sleep; ask for a high floor on the Ocean View side facing the sea, which is much quieter. Finally, Cable Beach has beautiful white sand, but on some mornings Sargassum seaweed washes in — the hotel team clears it, but on a heavy day it may not look as clean as the brochure photos.

If the trip in your head is soaking in the Privilege pool in the afternoon, sipping a cocktail at Monkey Bar in the evening, walking over to try your luck at the largest casino in the Caribbean, then capping the night with dinner at Cleo or Carna — this is the most fun answer in Nassau right now. But if you are planning a family trip with young kids, or want a quiet, private Paradise Island-style resort, the SLS wing may not be it; look at the Rosewood Baha Mar wing in the same complex, which has a softer mood.
