In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Picture the largest resort on St. Kitts, set on a long stretch of white sand on the Atlantic side of Frigate Bay - that's the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino, a 4-star property with 393 rooms across three wings: Royal Beach (beachfront and newest), Ocean (wide sea views) and Manor (garden and golf views). Most rooms run 38-42 square metres, genuinely roomy in the classic Caribbean way, done in warm cream-and-brown tones with pale wood and tropical prints. Open the balcony door and the sea breeze and surf find you without trying. The king beds are soft, and the marble bathroom splits the tub from a walk-in shower. Pick the Royal Beach wing and you get a newer room facing the water directly - surf to fall asleep to every night. The overall feel isn't the flashy luxury of a Bali or Maldives resort; it's classic Caribbean - easy, warm, like a big family's holiday house.
Food and amenities
If one thing makes the St. Kitts Marriott stand out from other resorts on the island, it's the Royal Beach Casino - 35,000 square feet, the largest in the Eastern Caribbean, reached straight off the lobby. Inside are tables for blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat and poker, plus several hundred slots, under low Vegas-style lighting, open till dawn on weekends. The Calypso bar and club next door keeps the drinks coming. For something calmer, the Emerald Mist Spa has 15 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, a hammam and morning yoga by the sea; plenty of reviews praise the standard for the price. Step out the other side and you hit the Royal St Kitts Golf Club, a championship 18-hole, par-71 course designed by Thomas McBroom, opened in 2004, around 6,900 yards, ringed by views of Mount Liamuiga and both the Caribbean and the Atlantic at once. The first tee at sunrise over the water is a real treat. Non-golfers get three pools (including a kids' pool and a plunge pool with a swim-up bar), a kids' club, tennis courts, a 24-hour gym, and eight restaurants and bars - from the Calypso breakfast buffet to the Blu Seafood steakhouse and La Cucina, the Japanese room with teppanyaki tables.
Location and getting there
Location may be the resort's single biggest edge over its rivals on the island. It sits in the middle of Frigate Bay, a narrow isthmus with sea on both sides - the resort faces the Atlantic, a long white-sand beach with gentle surf, while a 5-minute walk across the road reaches the even clearer Caribbean side. At the heart of that isthmus is The Strip, St. Kitts' late-night row of local bars and restaurants, a 2-minute walk from the lobby - names like Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack, Buddies Beach Hut and Vibes Beach Bar, at half the on-site prices, with live music and a real island feel. It's about a 10-minute drive from Robert L. Bradshaw airport (SKB), and the capital, Basseterre - cruise port, fresh market and the UNESCO-listed Brimstone Hill Fortress - is just as close. The resort runs a pre-booked airport shuttle, or a taxi runs about $18-22. Want to see the rest of the island - the Mount Liamuiga volcano, the St. Kitts Scenic Railway, or neighbouring Nevis - and the resort can arrange it all.
Things to know before booking
Straight talk to help you decide. The first thing that comes up often in reviews is the sheer size - nearly 400 rooms across three wings means a 5-7 minute walk across buildings to the lobby or beach at times. Land in the Manor wing set furthest back and reviews say it looks older and due for a refresh, with worn carpet and furniture in spots; ask the front desk for the newer Royal Beach or Ocean wing when you book. Second, on-site food and drinks run high - $4 for a bottle of water, $8-10 for a beer at the bar, $25-40 per person for a main - though crossing to The Strip for two minutes gets you local prices at roughly half. Third, service in high season (December-April) draws complaints of being slow and understaffed, especially at check-in when several tour groups arrive together, and poolside loungers fill fast after 10am. Finally, in-room Wi-Fi is free but only moderately fast; if you need to work seriously, check whether a premium package is available.
Our take
After reading through hundreds of real reviews, the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & The Royal Beach Casino sells one thing fully: everything in one place. A good beach, the largest casino in the Eastern Caribbean, a full spa, an 18-hole golf course around the grounds, eight restaurants, and a location a minute from Frigate Bay's nightlife. If the trip in your head is a Caribbean family week - golf in the morning, beach in the afternoon, the kids swimming at sunset, a big dinner at Blu Seafood, then a late shot at the casino - it covers all of it without leaving the gate. Same goes for a big group of friends who want one base to see the whole island from. But if you're after a small, plush boutique resort with the kind of service that remembers everyone's name, or razor-sharp modern design, the scale and character here aren't it - a 400-room resort can't deliver that intimacy. Overall we give it 8.4/10, best for families with kids, friend groups, golf-getaways, and anyone wanting a full-service Caribbean resort at a price that's still reachable.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- Sits directly on Frigate Bay - fine white sand, clear blue water, with free loungers and umbrellas for guests. It's about a 2-minute walk from the lobby to the water.
- The 35,000-square-foot Royal Beach Casino is the largest in the Eastern Caribbean, open 24 hours on weekends, with blackjack, roulette and several hundred slot machines. Entry is free for hotel guests.
- The Royal St Kitts Golf Club is a championship 18-hole, par-71 course designed by Thomas McBroom and wrapping the resort - you can walk from your room straight to the tee.
- The Emerald Mist Spa has 15 treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy pool, a hammam and morning yoga by the sea. Reviews consistently say the treatments are solid for the price.
- It's especially strong for families - a separate kids' pool, a kids' club, a playground, restaurants with kids' menus, and that 2-minute walk to The Strip's bars and restaurants.
- This is a big resort - over 390 rooms across three wings - so reaching the lobby or beach can mean a long walk across buildings. Some reviews say the wings set further back, especially Manor, look dated and due for a refresh, with worn carpet and furniture in spots.
- Food and drinks on site run high compared with the walkable spots on The Strip. A bottle of water is about $4, a beer at the bar $8-10, and a main course $25-40 per person - close to double the local prices a 2-minute walk away.
- In high season (December-April), reviews flag slow service and understaffing, especially at check-in and check-out and around the pool when several tour groups arrive at once. Poolside loungers also fill fast if you head down after 10am.

Insider Tips
- Ask for a room in the Royal Beach wing facing the water directly - it has the best views and is newer than the Manor block. Specify ocean view clearly with the front desk at the time you book.
- Head across the road to The Strip for dinner. It's a 2-minute walk, prices run about half, and the local Caribbean vibe is far more relaxed - try Mr. X's Shiggidy Shack.
- If you plan to golf, book your tee time through the concierge on check-in day. Guest rates run about 20-30% below walk-in, and you'll get the early-morning slots when the weather is best.
