A Suva Deluxe already gets a good view; the Suva Premier and Plaza Suite on the higher floors open up to full panoramas. Step out in the morning to birdsong, the sound of the water and a cool breeze, and it lands every time. The suites also add a separate sitting area and a larger fridge, which suits longer stays or a small family.

Food and amenities

The heart of a stay here is the open-air rooftop pool on level 14, where the Suva Harbour view spreads out in a full panorama, sailboats and fishing boats reduced to small dots on the blue. Late afternoon is the golden hour — the light turns orange-gold behind the hills across the water before it slides under the horizon, a sunset spot you will not find at another hotel of this level in town. Downstairs is Plaza Restaurant, the main dining room serving an international breakfast buffet and an à la carte menu that blends global plates with local Fijian and Indian food. Location and getting there

Location is another strong card for Tanoa Plaza. The hotel sits in the middle of Suva Point, right on the corner of Gordon Street and Malcolm Street, the main business district of Suva and Fiji's capital. Walk out of the lobby and you are surrounded by Fijian, Indian, Chinese and Korean places to eat. It is only 700 metres to Princes Wharf, an easy 10-minute walk — handy if you plan a boat trip out to Beqa Lagoon, known for its shark diving. A little further on are Tappoo City mall and the Suva Municipal Market, the local fresh market that opens at 6am with tropical fruit, vegetables, spices and Fijian souvenirs, 10–12 minutes on foot. For getting in and out, the closest airport is Nausori Airport (SUV), about 23 kilometres away, 30 minutes by road and ideal if you fly domestically from Nadi. Nadi International (NAN), Fiji's main gateway on the western side of Viti Levu, is 3.5–4 hours by road via Queens Road. The hotel runs a shuttle and can help book a car. If you are spending your time mainly in Suva, this location is the most sensible answer.

Things to know before booking

Straight talk to help you decide. First, understand that the building leans classic Suva, not sleek modern luxury — even with the 2019 renovation the structure and layout are unchanged. Anyone expecting an island-resort feel like Denarau Island or the Mamanuca Islands, with beachfront bungalows, infinity pools and a spa in the coconut palms, may find it a touch ordinary. This is a city hotel, best for visiting Suva, doing business, or staging before and after a boat to the islands. Second, the Wi-Fi is free but weak in some rooms, especially on lower floors and those far from a router; if you need to work online, check at check-in and ask to move if necessary, or keep a local Vodafone Fiji or Digicel SIM as backup. Third is noise — rooms facing Gordon Street pick up early-morning traffic around 6–8am as people head to work, and some weekend nights bring sound from nearby restaurants and bars. Light sleepers should ask for a high floor (10 and up) on the city or harbour side, which is much quieter. Finally, on breakfast, some reviews note the rotation is not hugely varied over several nights — swap in a meal at a local spot around Cumming Street for real Fijian food and better value.
