The heart of a stay here is the pool deck and the rooftop. Things to know before booking

Straight talk to help you decide. First, the clifftop location: it gives you the best sea views, but reaching Carvoeiro village or the beach below means walking a slope and climbing back up. Second, plan for transport: the Algarve has no metro and the area around the resort is fairly quiet, so without a rental car it is awkward to eat out or sightsee elsewhere, and taxis here are limited and pricey — rent a car if you mean to get around a lot. If your trip looks like sunbathing by the infinity pool over the sea all afternoon, walking the Algar Seco cliff path down into pretty Carvoeiro village, boating out to Benagil Cave, then closing the day with a cocktail and sunset on the Sky Bar — all for less than many luxury resorts in the same area — this is about as well-judged a pick as you'll find. But if you would rather not rent a car, dislike the cliff climb, or want pure quiet in high season, weigh it up a little.
