In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Units start at about 45–55 sq m — bigger than several of the 5-star hotels elsewhere on this list. The floors are light parquet, easy on bare feet, with a king bed on a soft, thick mattress, an L-shaped sofa and a 55-inch TV. Wide windows look out over the city or a garden depending on your floor. Real guest scores sit around 8.9 on Trip.com, and the space is the main reason why.
Food and amenities
The kitchen corner is the point of staying here: an electric hob, fridge, microwave, kettle and the basic cookware you need. Reviewers like shopping the local Chinese market and cooking stir-fried greens with Longjing tea for breakfast. The building runs to a genuine 4-star standard — a medium-sized indoor pool, a gym open 06:00–22:00, a shared common room for working or reading, fast Wi-Fi throughout, 24-hour security and underground parking. The in-room washer is a real plus on a long trip.
Location and getting there
Westlake 7 sits in central Hangzhou, only about 700 m from West Lake — a relaxed 10-minute walk to the water. The Hubin pedestrian street is roughly 800 m away, and the old Hefang Street is about 1 km further on foot. The tower runs to 20-plus floors, new and clean, with a lobby and a hotel-style check-in counter — the difference is that the rooms are built for the long haul, with a kitchen and a washer, which is why we'd recommend it for stays of four nights or more.
Things to know before booking
This is an apartment, not a full hotel, so the daily service is lighter than at a staffed property and there's no full restaurant or room-service routine — the kitchen is the trade-off. Guest scores also vary by site: about 8.9 on Trip.com, but closer to 7.7 on Agoda and 7.9 on Booking, so set your expectations from the lower numbers. Rooms fill quickly in high season too, so lock in your dates early if they're fixed.
Our take
Westlake 7 Service Apartment Hangzhou works best for families and anyone staying several nights who wants a big, self-catering room near the lake. At roughly $49 to $100 a night, we think it's the best-value serviced apartment in the West Lake area. For a trip over five nights, or one with grandparents or small kids in tow, we'd choose it ahead of a standard hotel.
