Krabi splits into very different villages, and each suits a different traveler. Railay is reached only by longtail boat — limestone cliffs ring postcard beaches, no roads, no cars. Perfect for couples and honeymooners who want quiet, less ideal for families needing reliable Wi-Fi. Ao Nang is the lively hub with restaurants, night markets, and ferry piers to Phi Phi and the islands — great for first-timers and families. Tubkaek and Klong Muang up north feel like private retreats (Phulay Bay, the world's first Ritz-Carlton Reserve, sits here). Krabi Town is the budget gateway with ~$7 hostels and easy ferry links to Lanta. Best weather is November-April; December-January peaks at 50-80% room markups. May-October monsoon drops prices 30-50% but island boats can be cancelled.

Rayavadee — hotel No. 1 #1 Luxury · Railay · three legendary beaches 9.4

Rayavadee

From ~$586

📍 On the Railay peninsula where Phra Nang, West Railay and East Railay beaches meet, reachable only by boat from Ao Nang pier (about 15 minutes). Krabi airport (KBV) is 25 km away plus the boat, and the resort sits inside Phi Phi-Hat Noppharat Thara National Park.

🏝️ Between Phra Nang, West and East Railay beaches 🛎️ Private butler for every pavilion 🍽️ Grotto Restaurant inside a beachside cave
102 forest pavilionsbetween three beachesGrotto cave restaurantname-knowing butler

If you only ever stay on Railay once, Rayavadee is the answer a lot of people land on. The resort hides among three of Krabi's prettiest beachesPhra Nang, West and East Railay — each a 5-minute stroll from your door. The 102 free-standing pavilions are spread wide through the trees, so privacy is total; your butler learns your name and handles everything from boat bookings to dinner reservations. The signature is Grotto Restaurant, where you eat European-Mediterranean food inside a natural limestone cave right on Phra Nang beach — the kind of setting guests call genuinely once-in-a-lifetime. It is the most expensive address on Railay, with pavilions starting around $586 a night, but for a honeymoon or a milestone trip the location alone is hard to match anywhere else in Thailand.

  • Legendary location — three of Thailand's best beaches within a 5-minute walk
  • Butler-level service that learns every guest's name
  • Pavilions are huge and set far apart, so privacy is complete
  • Most expensive address on Railay; resort food runs 3-4 times beach prices
  • Longtail boat noise and day-trippers crossing Phra Nang can intrude midday

Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve — hotel No. 2 #2 Most luxurious · Tubkaek · Ritz Reserve 9.5

📍 On Tubkaek Beach on Krabi's northern coast, 35 km from Krabi Airport (KBV, about a 40-minute drive), 30 km from Krabi town (about 35 minutes), and 25-30 minutes by road from Ao Nang and Railay.

👑 World's first Ritz-Carlton Reserve 🏊 54 villas, 105+ sq m each 🧖 ESPA spa
World's first Ritz-Carlton ReserveVillas from 105 sq mESPA spa top in AsiaQuiet Tubkaek Beach

Phulay Bay is the very first Ritz-Carlton Reserve on Earth — the brand's top tier, with fewer than 10 properties worldwide. It sits on quiet Tubkaek Beach on Krabi's northern coast, where 54 villas and pavilions start at a generous 105 sq m, each with a 24-hour butler. The standout is the ESPA Spa, which guests rate as one of the best in Asia, plus the Japanese restaurant Jampoon that many call the finest of its kind in southern Thailand. From the beach you look out at the four islands of Hong Islands, gorgeous in the late afternoon. It is expensive, and you are well away from the Ao Nang action — but Trip.com gives it 9.6, and that score is earned. This is a retreat-first stay for couples and honeymooners who want privacy over nightlife.

  • Reserve-level service — like renting a villa with your own private team
  • Rooms are huge, starting at 105 sq m, in contemporary Thai design
  • The ESPA spa and Japanese food at Jampoon stick in your memory
  • Resort dining and spa prices run very high — budget extra
  • Far from Ao Nang and Railay, a 25-30 minute drive each way

Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi — hotel No. 3 #3 family · Pai Plong · private beach 8.4

📍 On the private Pai Plong Bay beach — reachable only by a 3-minute boat from Ao Nang or on foot via the Monkey Trail, just 1 km from Ao Nang in a straight line, and 18 km from Krabi Airport (KBV), about a 25-minute drive plus the boat.

🏝️ Private Pai Plong beach, boat access only 🛏️ 192 rooms and villas, 2 pools 💰 From about $243/night
boat-only private beach192 rooms and villaslimestone cliffs around bayfree Ao Nang shuttle boat

Centara Grand Beach sits on Pai Plong Bay, a private beach you can only reach by boat or via the Monkey Trail, so it genuinely feels like your own little island even though Ao Nang is just 1 km away in a straight line. Kids can run loose all day on the roughly 500-metre stretch of white sand, and reviewers single out the big multi-national breakfast buffet, the two pools and the limestone cliffs ringing the bay. A free shuttle boat runs to Ao Nang every hour from 06:30 to 23:00, a 3-to-5-minute hop, so you get the seclusion without being stranded. Some of the older standard rooms are starting to show their age, but the headline rate of about $243 a night lands far below Rayavadee for a real beachfront 5-star, and the score sits at a solid 8.4/10.

  • A genuinely private beach — no outsiders, no beach vendors wandering through
  • Big multi-national breakfast buffet reviewers rate the best in Krabi
  • Limestone cliffs wrap the bay, so it feels like escaping the world
  • Older standard rooms draw complaints about dated furniture and damp
  • In-resort food is pricey, and eating out means a 15-minute round-trip boat

Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort — hotel No. 4 #4 mid-range · Ao Nang · cliff view 8.7

📍 On a hill in the centre of Ao Nang (formerly Aonang Cliff Beach) — a 3-minute walk down the slope reaches Ao Nang beach and the restaurants, with the boat pier 7 minutes away. Krabi airport (KBV) is 17 km, about a 22-minute drive.

🌅 Sunset infinity pool 🌊 Sea view in every category 🚶 3-minute walk to the beach
renovated under Avanisunset infinity poolevery room sea view3-minute walk to beach

After its renovation under the Avani brand, this cliff-top resort is the best value in Ao Nang if you want a 4-star room with a sea view for less than half the price of Centara Grand. All 178 rooms across every category are sea-facing, and the infinity pool catching the sunset is the headline — it sits on a hill in central Ao Nang, so you get quiet and a view without losing the location. The main restaurant lays on a varied breakfast buffet, and it's a 3-minute walk down the slope to Ao Nang beach and the restaurant strip. A free shuttle runs to the beach every 30 minutes from 09:00 to 22:00. Rooms start at roughly $80 a night, against $230 and up for the Hyatt Regency or Centara Grand nearby. Best for couples and families who want a real sea view on a mid-range budget.

  • Best value in its 4-star tier for this kind of sea view
  • Infinity pool over Ao Nang with one of Krabi's top sunsets
  • Central Ao Nang but on a hill, so it stays quiet
  • You have to walk up and down the hill to reach town, or take the shuttle
  • Ao Nang beach itself is busy, not a quiet private cove

Sand Sea Resort Railay — hotel No. 5 #5 Railay · 1-minute walk to the pier · easy on the wallet 9

📍 On West Railay, right on the neck of the headland — a 1-minute walk to the Railay pier and West Railay Beach, 3 minutes to East Railay, reached only by a 15-minute boat from Ao Nang; about 1 hour from Krabi Airport including the boat.

🏝️ Right on West Railay Beach 🛏️ 130+ rooms and bungalows, open since 1991 💰 From about $70 a night
open since 19911-minute walk to West Railay3 swimming poolsfrom about $70 on Railay

If you want to open your door and step straight onto West Railay, Sand Sea Resort Railay is the value answer most travelers land on. It has been running since 1991 — the oldest resort on the peninsula — and it sits right on the neck of the headland, so East and West Railay are each a 1-minute walk away. You get 3 swimming pools, a beachfront restaurant pointed straight at the sunset, and genuinely warm Thai staff. Some rooms show their age, but with prices from about $70 on Railay and a 9.1 on Trip.com, the math is hard to argue with. This is the move if you want a real Railay stay — sand a minute from your room, no cars, no roads — without paying Rayavadee money.

  • Killer location — walk out your door to both West and East Railay in under 3 minutes
  • Genuinely friendly Thai staff that reviews keep singling out
  • Bungalows and rooms in several styles, with entry prices from about $70
  • An older resort — some un-renovated bungalows look dated and can smell damp
  • Wi-Fi across Railay is unreliable, so it is a poor fit for remote work

Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Villas Railay — hotel No. 6 #6 Railay pool villa · about half the price of Rayavadee 9

📍 In the middle of East Railay — a 5-minute walk to Railay Walking Street, 7 minutes to West Railay, 15 minutes to Phra Nang Beach, and a 15-20 minute boat ride from Ao Nang.

🏝️ Private pool villas on East Railay 🛏️ Big jacuzzi tub + Netflix in every room 💰 Villas run about half of Rayavadee's price
Railay pool villaspacious rooms and villasbest restaurant in Railaybutler service

Bhu Nga Thani is Railay's reachable take on luxury — a 9.1 on Trip.com built on rooms that guests call villa-sized, a pretty main pool ringed by limestone karst, and a kitchen many rank second only to Rayavadee. The draw is the private-pool villas, which run roughly half the price of Rayavadee's, making this the smart pick for couples who want the space and the pool without the ultra-luxury bill. Rooms come with a big jacuzzi tub, Netflix Smart TV, a marble bathroom and in-room Nespresso, and the staff — many of them assigned as personal butlers — book Phi Phi trips, kayaking and hikes for you. Two caveats worth knowing up front: the beach is a 5-minute walk, not your doorstep, and the resort closes for renovation from June 1 to July 31, 2026, so check the dates before you book.

  • Rooms and villas run big, with a large tub and Netflix — it feels properly upscale
  • The restaurant and breakfast buffet are excellent, the best in Railay
  • Pretty main pool and premium-level staff who genuinely look after you
  • Closed for renovation June 1 to July 31, 2026 — check the dates first
  • The beach is a 5-minute walk, not beachfront

Aonang Princeville Villa Resort & Spa — hotel No. 7 #7 mid-range · Ao Nang · beachfront 8.6

📍 Right on Ao Nang beach at the southern end, on the Pai Plong Sand Bar — a 5-minute walk to restaurants, pubs and the night market, 5 minutes to Ao Nang Pier, and 17 km (about a 22-minute drive) from Krabi Airport (KBV).

🏝️ Beachfront on Ao Nang's Pai Plong Sand Bar 🛏️ Pool Villa with private 4x8m pool from about $186 💰 Deluxe from about $80; range up to roughly $271
beachfront on Ao Nangaffordable pool villawell-rated spa5-min walk to restaurants

Princeville is one of the rare addresses on Ao Nang that is genuinely beachfront — right on the Pai Plong Sand Bar with the sea at your doorstep at the southern tip, where some rooms open straight onto sand with no road to cross. The pricing sits in the mid-range and earns its keep if you upgrade: a Pool Villa with a private 4-by-8-metre pool runs from about $186, and a Jacuzzi Pool Suite from roughly $129 — less than half what the beachfront luxury names down the coast charge for the same idea. The Princeville Spa uses traditional Thai herbal treatments and gets named in review after review, and the Thai staff are warm and easy to deal with. The resort holds GHA WellHotel certification and has 2 pools, the main one ringed by limestone karst.

  • Central Ao Nang and right on the sand — you can walk to everything
  • Strong spa; reviews keep singling out the massage therapists
  • Quiet resort feel with a pretty pool framed by limestone karst
  • Some reviews flag the older Deluxe wing rooms — visible wear and a damp smell
  • Breakfast buffet has less variety than the bigger resorts

Aonang Phu Petra Resort, Krabi — hotel No. 8 #8 Mid-range · Ao Nang ridge · standalone villas 8.3

📍 On a ridge above Ao Nang, ringed by limestone cliffs — 1.3 km from Ao Nang beach (5-minute shuttle), 18 km from Krabi Airport (KBV, about 25 minutes by car), and close to Noparatthara Beach.

🏝️ Standalone villas set among the cliffs 🛁 Jacuzzi in the bathroom 🌳 360-degree cliff-view pools
25 standalone villas57 sqm standard rooms360-degree cliff-view poolsfree beach shuttle

If the trip in your head is a postcard limestone retreat at a price you can actually justify, Phu Petra pulls it off. The 25 villas sit on their own across the hillside, each a generous 57 sqm with a jacuzzi in the bathroom and a small 2 x 3 metre wading pool off the terrace. The two main pools face the cliffs head-on, and the sunset shot through the karst between 5pm and 6:30pm is the photo everyone leaves with. Beds are soft, villas are quiet, and the staff get consistently warm reviews on Trip.com. The catch is plain: it is not beachfront. Ao Nang beach is 1.3 km downhill — a free shuttle covers it in 5 to 7 minutes, or you walk 15 to 20. For couples who want privacy and a calm base between island tours rather than sand outside the door, this is about the most private stay in the Ao Nang area.

  • High privacy — villas stand on their own across a quiet hillside
  • Two cliff-view pools that frame the limestone karst
  • Roomy 57 sqm rooms with high ceilings and a jacuzzi — feels above its price
  • Not beachfront — a shuttle ride or a 15 to 20-minute walk to the sand
  • One main restaurant and a middling breakfast buffet, so few dining options on site

Centara Anda Dhevi Resort & Spa Krabi — hotel No. 9 #9 Family resort · Ao Nang · 43m pool + waterslide 8.6

📍 Ao Nang (Noparatthara district) — a 15-minute walk to Ao Nang beach and the night market, 10 minutes to the quieter Noparatthara Beach, and 18 km (about a 25-minute drive) from Krabi Airport (KBV).

🏊 43-metre pool 🛝 Kids' waterslide 👶 Kids Club, ages 4-7 and 8-12
43-metre pooltwo-age Kids Clubwaterslidehalal dining

If you're bringing kids to Ao Nang, this is the resort people keep recommending. The headline is a 43-metre pool with a waterslide, a pool bar where parents can sit with a drink, and a Kids Club split into two age bands so the 5-year-olds aren't mixed in with the 11-year-olds. Plenty of parents report their children flat-out refusing to go back to the room. It's run by Centara, so the standard is dependable, and the price sits well below the chain's beachfront Centara Grand — rooms start around $80 a night and run to roughly $200. The international breakfast buffet covers Thai, Western, Indian and Middle Eastern plates with halal options, which is a big reason Muslim families come back. The trade-off is location: you're about 1 km from the main beach, a 10-to-15-minute walk depending on which sand you want.

  • Best in the area for families with kids — the Kids Club genuinely delivers
  • Big 43-metre pool with a waterslide and pool bar — children don't get bored
  • Multi-nation breakfast buffet with halal options
  • Some older-wing rooms draw complaints about a musty smell and damp
  • Not beachfront — a 10-to-15-minute walk to the sand

Pak-Up Hostel — hotel No. 10 #10 backpacker · Krabi Town · dorms from $7 8.8

Pak-Up Hostel

From ~$7

📍 Dead center of Krabi Town on Khong Kha Road near the river — 5 minutes' walk to Chao Fah Pier and 3 to the night market, with Ao Nang beach 20km away (about 30 minutes by road) and Krabi Airport (KBV) 15km out (about 20 minutes).

🏝️ Center of Krabi Town, 5-min walk to Chao Fah Pier 🛏️ Dorms 4-12 beds plus private rooms, from $7 💰 6 x 12m pool, in-house bar, free breakfast
#1 hostel in Krabicentral Krabi Townpool and bar on-sitefree breakfast

Pak-Up is the #1-rated hostel in Krabi on Tripadvisor and a perennial top 3 in Asia on Hostelworld, sitting right in the middle of Krabi Town on Khong Kha Road near the river. It's a 5-minute walk to Chao Fah Pier, where boats run straight to Koh Lanta, Phi Phi and Koh Jum without looping through Ao Nang, and just 3 minutes to the night market. This is a flashpacker setup, not a bare-bones bunk room — there's a 6 x 12m pool, an in-house bar with trivia and pool parties, free breakfast, and a 24-hour tour desk that books every boat and van you'll need. Dorms start at $7 and private doubles run to about $34, breakfast included. If you're traveling solo and want to meet people, or you're using Krabi as a launchpad for Phi Phi and Lanta, nothing else in town does it better.

  • Most social scene in Krabi — pool parties, trivia nights and live music make it easy to meet people
  • Central Krabi Town location — the easiest onward-travel base in the province
  • From $7 with free breakfast and a strong tour selection
  • Krabi Town has no beach — it's a 30-minute ride to Ao Nang or Railay
  • The bar runs loud some nights — bring earplugs

Which one — by trip style

🏨
#1 Luxury · Railay · three legendary beaches
Rayavadee

#1 Rayavadee is a forest villa that puts three of Thailand's prettiest beaches within a 5-minute walk — you are paying for the legendary location and a top-tier butler far more than for value.

🏨
#2 Most luxurious · Tubkaek · Ritz Reserve
Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

#2 Phulay Bay is about a quiet Reserve-level villa on Tubkaek Beach with a view of the four Hong Islands — strong on top-tier service and the ESPA spa, less so on being close to food and drink.

🏨
#3 family · Pai Plong · private beach
Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Krabi

#3 Centara Grand is about a private beach you can only reach by boat, so it feels like your own island — the quiet and the nature around it matter more here than how fresh some of the rooms are.

🏨
#4 mid-range · Ao Nang · cliff view
Avani Ao Nang Cliff Krabi Resort

#4 Avani Ao Nang Cliff is one of Krabi's best sunset views on a 4-star budget you can actually swing — the draw is the infinity pool and a sea view in every room category, more than a beach you have to walk down the hill to reach.

🏨
#5 Railay · 1-minute walk to the pier · easy on the wallet
Sand Sea Resort Railay

#5 Sand Sea is opening your door straight onto West Railay at a price you can actually swing — the location and the warm Thai staff matter more here than how fresh some of the rooms are.

🏨
#6 Railay pool villa · about half the price of Rayavadee
Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Villas Railay

#6 Bhu Nga Thani is a pool villa on Railay for roughly half of what Rayavadee charges — its strengths are spacious villas and a genuinely good restaurant, more than a beachfront address, since the sand is a 5-minute walk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Railay or Ao Nang — which is better?
Railay is boat-access only with stunning beaches between limestone cliffs — ideal for honeymooners and nature lovers, but limited restaurants and shaky Wi-Fi. Ao Nang has everything walkable — restaurants, bars, night markets, ferry piers. Best combo: 2 nights Ao Nang + 2 nights Railay for both energy and serenity.
How do I get from Krabi Airport (KBV) to my hotel?
Ao Nang 22 min by car (Grab ~$11-$17). Krabi Town 20 min (shuttle ~$6). Railay requires car to Ao Nang then 15-min longtail boat (~1 hour total, ~$23-$34). Tubkaek/Phulay Bay 40 min (~~$71 private). Airport bus is ~$4 to Ao Nang/Krabi Town with limited stops.
How do I get to Phi Phi Islands from Ao Nang?
Two options. Speedboat: ~$20-$34 in 45 min-1 hr, departs 09:00 and 13:30. Ferry: ~$13-$19 in 1.5-2 hrs, departs 09:30 and 15:00. Combined 4 Islands tours (Phi Phi + nearby islands) cost ~$24-$34 with boat, lunch and snorkel. Monsoon season (May-Oct) sometimes cancels boats.
Is Krabi better for honeymoons or families?
Both work — pick the area. Honeymooners: Railay (Rayavadee, Bhu Nga Thani) or Tubkaek (Phulay Bay) for privacy and postcard views. Families: Ao Nang (Centara Anda Dhevi, Avani Cliff) with long pools and waterslides, or Centara Grand Pai Plong with a private beach. Skip Railay with small kids.
Are Krabi Town hostels safe on ~$7-$14?
Yes if well-chosen. Pak-Up in our list is Krabi's #1 hostel on Tripadvisor — large lockers, privacy curtains, fast Wi-Fi, 24/7 reception, CCTV. Dorms ~$7-$20. The on-site bar runs until midnight, so bring earplugs. Always lock valuables.
